i have a 3g phone and vodafone live loads pretty slowly and sometimes it timesout. i am in 3g coverage range and i make video calls using my 3g phone but when i log into vodafone live it is slow. does vodafone live only support gprs so even if you have a 3g phone vodafone live will still use gprs? is there anyway to make vodafone live browse using 3g?

If your phone is displaying 3G then the traffic goes over the WCDMA radio interface! (3G)

If you are in 2G then this is done over the GPRS network (2G)

If you are in 3G coverage the 2G network could be shut down and you would not notcie any difference!

Yep definitely does otherwise downloading full music tracks would be ridiculously slow and we wouldn't be able to watch sky mobile tv

wow then it seems the 3g network is very slow then. when i log into self central in vodafone live the small thumbnail photos should load instantly but they take about 3 seconds to load and why does vodafone live still time out regularly then?

Its vodafone live which is on the slower side! Nothing to do with WCDMA/HSDPA speed!

If you used your phone as Modem and browsed the web then you would see 3G/HSDPA speed working!

And also phones do not have the fastest processoers as this would shorten Batt life!

why don't vodafone upgrade their vodafone live servers so it can handle the increased traffic to vodafone live? i wonder if vodafone is doing something wrong because i think i remember the commerce commission saying isps have to provide a reasonable service so shouldn't this apply to vodafone? i don't think vodafone live timing out at least once every 5 minutes is providing a reasonable service especially when vodafone advertises vodafone live in their phone manuals and on store displays. and it times out when i have 3g and full reception. does anyone know if telecom's wap portal times out like vodafone's?

Vodafone live is not a ISP service!!

How much are you paying to browse Vodafone live?

Correct, Vodafone live! is not an ISP. It's a content provider.

But being free doesn't mean high quality is not expected. For example it's free to browse Geekzone and I would expect the server to be responsive and serve pages on a timely manner. That's why we add new HDD, update OS, defrag HDD, etc. It is called "management".

Time outs can be caused by many reasons,

I wonder if the end user is in LOW coverage or do they have the latest handset software/firmware!

you really have to ask do they have the latest version of firmware dont you!

if he is using a known stable version of firmware, which most vodafone NZ sold mobiles do, hence why that software version is choosen, they should be able to browse Vlive on a GPRS and especially on a 3G or HSDPA connection.

Time outs are normally assosiated with errors after the initial connect to the server has been made otherwise you would get a cannot connect message, depending upon the detail your broswer is reporting back to you. if you are able to browse other webpages without error then the fault lies with the Vlive systems and as like most websites is a load balanced system it might only be one section and therefore Vodafone may not even reailse they have a fault at all as they might be hitting a different server when they test.

the only good answer i have seen so far is that he is in LOW coverage as most phones can handle the simple HTML coding used in Vlive otherwise they have change the webpages since i last checked them out and that would be really silly as they would be locking out users with older handsets.

i have full 3g coverage. all the bars on the screen show up.  i have full 3g coverage.

i have checked my firmware and i have the latest. i bought my 3g phone 2 months ago.

i can browse other webpages without error

vodafone live is the only website that times out.

must be vodafone's load balanced system. why doesn't vodafone do a check on all their servers so they can fix this problem?

Do you have a have a 3G or HSDPA phone? Latency on 3G is a lot greater than HSDPA.
