My N95 picked up EDGE signal a couple of times this afternoon, and when I tried to connect to the internet via EDGE, it returned a "Packet Data: Authorisation Failed". GPRS, and 3G (HSDPA) were also erratic, with sometimes no data going through at all, although it connected fine.

Could this be a sign of Vodafone rolling out EDGE in preparation for iPhone?!!

I recalled a thread a couple of months ago where someone also mentioned picking up EDGE signal, and was told that it could be an error of some sort. So today I checked my friend's TyTN II, and his TyTN II also picked up EDGE signal, and again was not able to surf the net with it.

By the way, this was at Auckland Uni if that makes any difference??

I hope Vodafone rolls out EDGE - it's less of a drain on the battery while still providing somewhat of a bearable speed. :) Even if it was not for the iPhone!

EDIT: I type too slow... Oh well. Not exactly a surprise.

I would love to see an Edge network, mostly because my Treo doesn't support 3G, and it'd be nice to have non-dialup speeds, it really would. It'd also give me less reason to buy a 3G phone, which I'm kinda tempted to at some point in the next year. But if they put in an Edge network... Maybe not.

I'd be surprised if they were doing that though... It can't exactly be cheap, and I can't imagine that they'll be selling a huge number of iPhones.

Is that your speculation or have you got an inside word on that?

I hope it's the former. Tongue out

Well you just never know!

No Vodafone Group network every deployed EDGE and Vodafone hated it but times have changed - there are even active EDGE sites in the UK now!
