A VDSL service in Silverdale is varying every few hours between 2M/1M and 40M/10M with corresponding noise margins down/up 22db/21db and 11db/5db.

Current stats below .. does this instability indicate a line fault or DSLAM or router problem?

local wiring has been thoroughly checked out by an expert .. firmware has been upgraded to latest .. this fault did suddenly onset at 3am last Thursday (the day after a big fire just around the corner) .. the copper line seems quiet but perhaps there could be bursts of interference causing this?

yep got clothes .. and a line-monitored alarm, all of which are confirmed to be downstream of the renewed master splitter

You would want the Filter to be downstream of those items as the entire idea of that filter is to separate the two frequencies.

what are the errors like on the modem?

it could be something like the phone line to the modem is running close to a noisy power supply or the modem might just be on its way out

I'm sure your always having issues with these drayteks!

this sounds very much like a loose lead though (given the attenuation changes)

Have you logged a fault?

Hah thanks for the cheerful observation :-)  and yes a Chorus tech on their way.

Actually the attentuation is unchanging (ok +- 1dB) .. it is the SNR which is changing a lot .. image below shows stats at various times over past 2 days ..

Oh. i misread and thought you said attenuation not snr.

That's normally modem or upstream errors fault causing modem to resync lower to hold a solid sync.

Yeah I think he got that cowboy coffeebaron in to check it out :)
Fixed up the messy difficult to trace wiring and ran new lead from ITP. So now all good on the internal. Popcorn ready for the Chorus result.
