Quick question - what is the purpose of the additional LAN port on the Technicolor TC440VDF cable modem?

Yes, both are ethernet ports (I've not tried using the second one).

im guessing you have a router connected to the modem and you run stuff from that, if so the other port is not much help to you

The TC4400 is a standard model Technicolor DOCSIS 3.1 modem (with VF Livery). It's a pure bridge. DOCSIS 3.1 can do more than 1Gbps, so if that service were offered, you would need either more than 1 GE port, or a 10GE port.

Some Technicolor details are here

On the VF network, the ports are bridged, which means you can plug the router WAN port into either one. Apart from that, no particular benefit.

pretty sure what you mean to say is... Vodafone should off a 2gbit plan over FibreX so we can have another 200 page thread on FibreX performance ;)
