I am not sure the answer already exists but here we go.

I pay for our daughter's prepay account - $30/month. She usually run out of data a couple of days before the renewal.

I don't want to leave a balance on her account because I don't want mobile data casual rates eating any balance. On the other hand I have to keep an eye on this account every few weeks to make sure I don't miss the renewal date or risk her having no service - phone calls, SMS at all.

Can I either disable casual data on the service or does Vodafone have a "reserve" on the balance so it's not used up for anything but prepay renewal?

Ive seen Lynx, reply a few times to questions along this line that if you ring 777 ask them to remove the casual data addon - that should fix it :)

Though i kind of wish we would go back to Casual Data rates being turned off by default and the user having to ask for them to be turned on like we had a few years back.

Otherwise, does Vf do a shared data plan like 2D does? My wife and I were both on 2D prepay plans, and I'd have to add data to my wife's balance.
Now, I've gone onto a plan, added the wife, and we can share the Data pool each month. The 2D app then allows me to put a data cap on the shared data.

All of this is 2D as stated, but does Vf do the same?

Thanks all, will call later.

It's an idea - I could just port her mobile to 2degrees and have shared data between wife's and daughter's devices.

Even if existed as an option on Vodafone I couldn't use it as my Vodafone mobile is on a corporate plan.

I read a similar question a while back and thought what a good idea.  I rang "777" and was told such an option does not exist.  Maybe I asked the wrong question, whatever, I couldn't get the answer I wanted.

@freitasm If you move the connection to 2degrees when you install the Data clock Application and register this will remove casual data off the connection

Thats what I like about Data Clock the most (it turns off casual data) kind of wish the networks would go back to having casual data turned off by default like it used to be a few years back.

Hi @freitasm,

There's currently no way to stop casual rates being invoked. The Casual Data add-on doesn't exist anymore.

So long as you're a regular app user, you can get in app notifications for your when your daughter's data/mins/txts balances get low so you can buy her an add-on or Prepay deal to keep her going. Alternatively, you can renew her plan early. Make sure she's on the Free Data Nights - that should help with the running out of data issue for a while at least.

There are other options - you could port your wife's 2D number to Vodafone and set up an On Account Shared Data arrangement (your daughter would be the sharer). For the $59.99 plan (15GB) you can add a sharer for $19.99/month, or with the $99.99 plan (40GB) you get a free sharer.

Cheers,

Peter

Thanks @PeterAB... I am not keen on buying a data add-on. She usually runs out a couple of days before the plan renewal and she needs to learn to manage her usage. Adding money to the account is automatically chewed by the casual data rates. She's already on the Free Data Nights but being under 14 she's home from school, using our broadband so rarely uses night data.

I don't remember seeing an option for early renewal of a plan in the app.

Hi @freitasm, maybe the Red Share option is the way to go - you can control her data allocation in My Vodafone. The early renewal option for My Flex or Mates plans is displayed from the Flex my plan page - i.e. tap on the top tile (or select the Plan & Add-Ons menu item), then tap Flex my plan. When you tap the 'Next' button, you're given the option to renew immediately, or have the plan settings you've selected start when the plan renews.

Thanks, @PeterAB... Interestingly, I see that if I go to Flex My Plan for her account the existing options she's on don't exist anymore. This mean to instantly renew the plan I would have to keep the same 2.5GB/month but reduce minutes from 150 to 50 - otherwise, the next option up is now 200 minutes for a $31 total. Which is not much of a difference but the app and website only allow $30 or $35 topup, which means every month it's four dollars more on Vodafone's account.

I am not keen on changing wife's phone to Vodafone as she has a couple hundred gigabytes accumulated on her account plus it gives us $10 discount in our broadband...

No winning really.

Alternatively could just go post-pay for her account, and get unlimited data for $40/month... That's a better value than the pre-pay which doesn't allow exact/custom amount topup.

Can I change a number from pre-pay to post-pay?

Hi @freitasm

Maybe I have a small win for you. If you call 777 you should be able to get them to change your daughter's plan to Mates. The Mates price for 2GB/150mins/Unlimted TXTs is $25 (or 2.5GB/150mins/Unlimited TXTs for $30) - so you'll be able to leave her with a zero balance. Plus she'll get an extra 500MB every time you top up $20 or more.
