Bought the Pixel 4a 5G from Australia, I'm on Vodafone, can't seem to get it to ever connect to 5G, even when in those coverage areas. Am I doing something wrong? Is this phone not compatible with 5G here?

Any help appreciated.

Not certified to work.

Pretty much explains it all. You CAN get it to work(obviously not responsible for network malfunctions, missing calls or setting off a nuclear bomb) here https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/video-tutorial-how-to-enable-5g-for-unlisted-countries-on-pixel-4a-5g-and-pixel-5-using-qpst.4243129/ thanks to our very own @swjang.

By the way swjang have you made progress getting VoLTE and 5G to stick after a reboot? Curious :)

Which is a pain as you can buy it here.  Seems these days unless you buy it from  the carrier you use there is no guarantee that  it will work beyond basic 4G service,

I don't think you can buy the Pixel (or any of the previous models) from Vodafone - I could be wrong.

According to price spy you can buy the pixel 4a 5G Aussie import from mighty ape and supero and the pixel 5 from mobile station and einfo. Not carrier supplied but certainly sold in NZ via import.

Agreed. My assumption is Vodafone won't officially support the Pixels unless they sold them directly (with their high margins, but "interest-free" pfffft).

Market isn’t there and it’s just not important enough to warrant support.

Not saying it’s an excuse it absolutely sucks and I wish for more phones from different bands to have support but it is what it is.

5G settings will stick upon reboots, as long as you don't change your sim card. When you swap the sim card, the phone will re-load the carrier file and in this case, load the generic file that has 5G disabled by default.

I couldn't find a way to keep VoLTE upon reboot. After trying many things like making my own magisk module and not working, I gave up. Our 3G voice call is quite clear in my opinion so that's good enough.

I'm not a developer so I have no further coding knowledge and have now hit a brick wall.
