The settings in my iPhone have the Carrier Network Selection on Automatic, instead of "hard set" on Vodafone. If I'm in a low or no Vodafone signal area, will my phone switch over and roam to XT if available? I've noticed on past trips to Australia that previous phones I've had switch around the different networks over there, so was curious to know if the same applies here.

No this won't happen as Vodafone and Telecom have no roaming agreement.

Bugger, so much for the dead spots. At least I won't have to worry about surprise roaming charges :-)
