Just wondering since I have a P1i that used to work fine as a modem on the 250MB plan but (perhaps coincidentally) now that I switched to the 100MB plan for $10, I can't get the phone to work as a modem via DUN. Data on the phone is okay (e-mail, Google earth etc.) but when used as a modem, while the PC connects and gets apparently correct DNS addresses, there is no default gateway so I can't actually access the Internet.

Since it has worked before I wonder if the issue is on the VF side instead

Thanks

OK - solved my problem thanks to some debugging by John.

A while ago I had installed the Blackberry client on the P1i to see if I could access our BES server. I got part way through it and then had problems. Deciding I didn't need to use the BES server for mail, I uninstalled the application. The problem was, the un-install wasn't clean - it left a residue where any account using the phone as a modem would use blackberry.net as the APN even though there is no way on the phone to see or change this.

John noticed this since the IP address the PC was getting after making the connection to the VF network was in the Blackberry ip range, not the usual DUN range.

I didn't know how to solve this apart from a complete reset of the phone which I was loathe to do. Then fired up the SE Phone software and when it downloaded settings from the phone it showed the APN as blackberry.net. Changed it in the application to www.vodafone.net.nz and it saved the settings back to the phone and now DUN works fine.

I am guessing others are not likely to encounter this problem but just in case, I have documented it for others

It was trying to connect to the Blackberry APN so in turn was getting the Blackberry IP assigned

Glad I could help

John
