Hi there Friend of mine was having trouble with switching from his freebie single port dynalink modem to a rta1025w, so i went over and checked it out. i first thought it will work out of the box straight away (no need to setup username etc in router menu) because at my place i didn't need to authenticate., but it wasnt working as routers PPP light wasnt on, so i did the quick setup and put username@dsl.clear.net.nz and the password. but still no PPP light. i gave the router few min no luck. i did a reset and setup everything again no luck. just to check if the phone jack is not faulty, i plugged the old modem and it worked. i took this rta1025 modem to my house and it worked within few sec, internet was ready to use. (i have Xtra)
Telecom/Xtra does not require a username and password for authentication (on Telecom Wholesale equipment at the exchange/cabinet) however other ISP's need the username and password to be set correctly.
On the front of the device the DSL led lights up as normal but the PPP led doesn't?
I would double check you had the username and password correct.
Also go to management > update firmware in the router's admin ui, what version is listed there under "Current Firmware Version"?

The current firmware version is 3.30 on dynalink.co.nz there is a update available to 3.64y which is suppose to :- New features: • New ADSL PHY a2pb023k. • NAT cache is flushed after upon disconnection of WAN. • Support DSCP in Bridge/IP QoS. • Support source routing. • Support two SSIDs with different wireless security settings. • Support Wi-Fi Multimedia (WMM). • Wireless repeater function works under WPA-PSK and WPA2-PSK.
I want to avoid updating the firmware as it may avoid the warranty and the shopkeeper may not take it back in case RTA1025w is not compatible after all. Unless there is a way i can update and then restore back to the older one.
Updating the firmware is pretty low risk as long as you don't have a power cut right in the middle the device doing the update.
However it's more likely you guys made a typo with the username/password or some of the settings were wrong rather than it being a firmware problem, since it works at your place on Telecom/Xtra where the login isn't needed.
