Hi,
I've just entered this century with a new TV! Despite being sceptical I am now very impressed with the quality of the Freeview picture (46" Full HD plasma).
Unfortunately it makes my Telstra Analogue TV look pretty poor. The question is how much better is their digital service? Worth getting now? It's mainly for the sport that I want it, I was watching rugby last night and thought the picture was pretty poor, or is this due to low bandwidth feeds.
I hear that great things are on the horizon from Telstra so should I just wait or is $99 to upgrade from Analogue to Digital TV a no brainer?

Thanks
Pete

Yes, digital will make a big difference, but it will not be as good as some Freeview programs as TC is not HD yet (& who knows when it wlll be, given the string of broken 'promises' to date).  Indeed, pq not as good as I would have exptected for digital, but certainly much better than analogue on a 46" full HD screen.

Re the $99.  I was told a couple of weeks ago that the $99 had been dropped for all transfers from analogue to digital TV as they are now wanting the remaining people off the analogue service.  If I was you I would be strongly pushing / holding out for a free transfer.  Will cost an extra $5* or thereabouts per month, but for that you get extra channels.  (*not certain if $5 is correct for packages that include the sport channels - we just have basic + Saturn extra)

Thanks for that, I did wonder if it was worth pushing for a free transfer.

Just make sure you hook the box up via S-video. If you use composite the dot crawl is very obvious.

They had mailed out something in August about Free Transfers to Digital. That offer has no ended they said but since we had been with them for so long they will do it for free. So I would try anyway, as anyone with Analogue would have had it for a long time anyway.

We are getting digital tomorrow, so more channels but I am not looking forward to the slow down in changing channels, as analogue is just like changing your normal tv channels,"Instant" whereas people with digital takes forever comparatively.

Telstra is lagging behind Sky though as they don't have any HD channels yet so digital is no better and they don't have the Freeview channels which Sky now has.

I went from TCL analogue to TCL digital a while ago and wasnt all that impressed to be honest, sure it was a little better but nothing to write home about. Then after having freeviewHD blow my socks off with the Olympics I decided to wait to see if TCL were going to do anything about it.

Eventually I got fed up with waiting and moved to SkyHD a couple of months ago and its been the best thing Ive ever done. All the sport in HD is fantastic and my only regret is I didnt do it earlier.

Last I saw TC analog they had a letterboxxed widescreen on some channels, and the BS 14:9 crap that FTA analog gets on some others, so in both cases a shift to digital will get more picture data so better picture.
