I don't mind paying it, but really - 19c - even IRD don't send accounts like this anymore.

It would have cost more to send it in the post!

I received a statement for negative $44 (ie: refund/credit) in both September and October from Telstraclear even though I changed ISP back in August. I think it was the partial month refund from August but they keep sending it.

Ah billing systems got to love them...

Note to self, always check the bill.

I can beat that, but not from Vodafone.  Starhub - my ISP/telco in Singapore - invoiced (printed and posted) me for 1c. And they actually charged my Amex for that too.

I was rather amazed.

I have had a few customers bring in bills for 2c-5c - they were wandering how to pay them since the Post Shop accepts payments for $10 and over.

The other problem is the system likes to automagically take them to Baycorp over this. I think it's rather bad.

In saying that, one of my customers sent a letter back with 2x 1c coins to "pay" his bill, he was quite amused by this :P

Back in the old IHUG days when I worked there, I had a friend email me asking if I could pay his 3c bill for him as he kept getting emails threatning baycorp action if he didnt pay it.
I paid 5c for him. The accounts girl was then left to sort out how to stop the system from sending my friend credit notices for 2c.....

Dont worry, we're getting a notice from telstraclear atm from when we were with them.

We're in credit for 2-5c. (can't remember which)

we rang and told them just to wipe it. We thought we had it sorted, but clearly not, as another one came in the other day.

Of course I love billing systems.

Its usually the people operating them I don't love so much!

Reminds be of a billing horror story from the states from a few years ago, but I cannot find the link. A man kept getting a invoice from his old power company for a final bill of $0.00 and threatened legal action if he didn't pay it. The letters kept coming with more and more threatening tones.

After many conversations with the power company in question and pleads to stop their accounting system, he eventually cut them a cheque for $0.00 and posted it in and forgot about it.

A few days later he had a frantic call from his bank manager asking why on earth he made a cheque out for such a amount and relayed his story. The bank manager told him that it brought down the whole cheque processing centre for the whole state and caused untold grief.

Anyways, the bills kept coming for $0.00 and he eventually took them to court and ended up having them done for harrassment or something similar, all because of their screwed up accounting system.

Just be glad it has not got that bad yet. You should all ring up Vodafone and ask to make part payments on the bill...

Not quite on the same scale of billing systems but anyway:

I once ordered a lightbulb from Mitre 10 and they tried to charge me $7.4383 for it. They ended up taking $7.40 after 10 minutes wrestling with their system, but I thought it was a funny amount to try and charge :)

Can't they just tell the billing system to ignore all payments under $1? Can't be that hard...

Clearly you haven't had much/any experience with the nightmares that are (some) billing systems...

Not a bill but I paid $0.01 for Fedora Core 5 disc from DSE. I mean the label the price was printed on probably cost more than that.
