Does Vodafone support push to talk?. If not then does any one know if this feature will be enabled on the network.

Another question i have is, on most of the new mobile phones they can send a pxt file up to 300kb - does NZ Vodafone support this or is it still 100kb.

Hi , the issue is not with sending a large Pic , but recieving . In Most cases the MMSC ( the box that does the traffic for Pics) will transcode the picture or video into the format and size limits of the receiving device. At this stage i think Vodafone only will allow receiving 100k , Telecom also has this issue

email?
handsets with strong connectivity?
i suppose it harms the model of getting good quality images on the go but with increasingly powerful cameras (in terms of resolution) its a bit of a must

Telecoms MMSC limit. At leat 250KB, probably 300KB(as per the sanyos)
Vodafones MMSC limit, At least 300KB (maybe 3g only)

If anyone is interested in a list of PHONE specific file sizes, I can post if desired.

At the end of the day MMS just screws with the picture. A 200KB image sent as a JPEG e-mail attachment will be of far higher quality than the same image sent via MMS. And as for the 3GP video format, oh dear what a mess.

MMS was a temporary stop-gap until networks caught up with the 'internet'. Now however the mobile network IS the internet, so now you can use the formats that are already available. This applies for all media file types. The mobile world loves re-inventing the wheel, only it comes out square!

I guess users need to look at -why- they are sending an MMS. If I want to send someone a pic of Bob and Sally making silly faces in the pub, i will MMS it. If I want to send a pic of my family to someone then i will email it directly.

push to talk is c**p> it's a gimmick
who wants people announcing stuff through their phone for everyone to hear?
harldy anyone has it and people just annoy me so I don't have it activated on my phone.
it's also a rip off.

I know lots of people who use it, its great in certain situations.
People who dont want things to come out on speaker can just press the speaker button and all P2T will be routed throught the earpeice.
Tens of thousands of people have it.
A rip off?? How?? Its ten dollars for unlimited talking at the moment. We have done the numbers for clients, and saved many customers large amounts of money by migrating lots of their short internal non-private calling to P2T. They love it, and the cost benefit is clearly obvious. Please explain further why you think its a ripoff?
