Hi there,

I am wanting to port my home phone number to VFX by Thursday afternoon.. all the customer service reps say this isn't possible and that it takes 4 business days.  Is this correct?  Is there anyway to get it rushed through?  I need it for the Easter Weekend as I'm moving house.  Unfortunately it was left a bit late.  Frown  If this isn't possible do you know if it would be possible to get a VFX number up and running by Thurs afternoon and then have it customer linked (through Telecom) to this number?  Thanks!

EDIT:  I should mention when I spoke to a lady on the phone she created me an account so I do have an account number.

Porting is very quick it must be something else slowing it down

Yeah I presume it is WXC doing credit checks or something?  Or the customer service reps just quoting the maximum time?  The reason I didn't sign up until today is that I had read posts on the forum where people said porting usually only takes about 1-2 hours.  Obviously I didn't take into account the sign up process with WXC itself.  I'm still hoping it is possible?  Smile

Is the number currently with Telecom? If so ask Telecom to customer link for you, then port after this.
There is a 4 day lead time for porting, so that all carriers have enough time to update their info.
Alternatively, try porting for the date advised by WxC. Once port is confirmed, request to move the port date forward.

Yes the number is with Telecom.  The problem is apparently it takes 4 days to get a Xnet phone number setup also so I wont be able to customer link to that number.  Frown  I'd have to customer link to a mobile (my very last resort due to cost).

The porting process itself only takes 1-2 hours maximum. The processes leading up the port can take time.

Hmm I see.. so it seems that it is unlikely that my number will be ported by Thursday night.  Frown I guess my next option then is to get a WxC number up and running by Thursday and then customer link it.  The service reps weren't much help with this though.. they said I can get a working number Monday at the earliest.  Has anyone here had any experience with this?

There is another way around this, which will only cost you a fraction of the approx. $20 per month charge, for the days you have it active:

-  A few years ago, we moved our business, and the new phone numbers were not yet active
-  I requested Telecom to enable their "Info Answer" service which plays a recorded message, without the option to transfer the call
-  Then recorded the message advising people of my mobile number as a temporary arrangement

That way, each caller paid for their "diverted" call as it were, so the entire cost didn't fall on me.  We only needed it for a few days, as per your situation, so once our new phone lines were up and running, I switched to Customer Link for 3 months, thereby only paying for a local call diversion @ 4.5c per minute instead of a mobile call diversion @ some exorbitant rip-off charge.

Further to the above post (because GZ won't allow me to edit it, even though I am within the 10 minute period):

"Info Answer" no longer exists on the Telecom website, so presumably it is called something different now.  Someone on the 126 team should know about it though.

coffeebaron's suggestion is the best solution, are you sure it's 4 days? I've had a number on WxC setup in 10 minutes.

You'd be best to go through a dealer who can push it through for you quicker.

Getting a VFX number setup is very easy and would not take long at all ... generally can be done in a day  if all details are there, the delay in the process is because it was a requirement for number porting that there is a standdown period to allow customers to change their mind etc, from there it is a min of 3 days , but pretty simple to get it custom linked if your in a rush.... Also the dealer guys Coffebaron / 3bit may be able to help

Ok I have signed up to VFX.. they say it should take two business days to get the WxC number active (is there any way I can speed this up?). I have setup my device so it is provisioned to WxC.. do I need to keep power cycling it until it registers? Once the WxC number is active I will request the number port and use Customer Link in the mean time. Thanks for helping everyone.

Restart your device and you should be online wityh a few minutes, it will auto provision in the next hour or so but a restart will force it to do straight away
