Does anyone else have some major propblems on cable today? I am in wellington and many of the overseas websites do not seem to connect. Including google, and many others. The problem actually already started a day or two ago but now seems to include more sites than before.
I would appreciate if someone else in wellington could let me know if they can reach the likes of google.com and speedtest.net.  Though video.google.com seems to work.

Actually... Just tried cnn.com, slashdot.com, facebook.com and some others. CNN didn't return anything. Slashdot returned only some of the content as well as Facebook.

Slashdot is dead here as well. Same as derspiegel.de (presumably hosted ion Germany)
I am in Kilbirnie btw, CNN does work for me, and since google works for you it  seems a bit random..

Looks like I will spend the next hour trying to get through to customer service...

Yep Telstra Cable web access problems all over the place.

Example www.engadget.com

Google seems ok.

Feels to me like the infamous transparent proxy getting in the way again.

Have also checked the sites from an ICONZ connection which works fine.

Hi all

Same here (since late last night).

IE returns "page not found" on most "overseas" sites. FF shows the page title in the tab but just an empty, blank page. Maybe the empty window is someone mis-understanding "transparent proxy" Smile

Seriously, probably cache problems (TCL's) as obscure overseas sites (that would never be cached) do seem to work.

Telstraclear's service status page shows no known faults Surprised  About to phone & let them know...

...will advise response if no-one else has had an answer

Yes, having the same problem here from my TelstraClear connection.

Trying to get through to them on the phone but keep getting cut off... has anyone had a response?

Edited to add: I'm also in Wellington.

Volume of calls to the helpdesk or does TC monitor Geekzone to be made aware of network faults ? ;)

anyone with some details of the cache-setup they use? i noticed it when i became the customer a year ago. and was somewhat surprised to see someone still deploys those.

like, i'm still a bit uncertain is it on all web traffic or on selected sites? i'd expect on all, but sometimes it almost looks as if it's not. but then again i have not really looked beyond the gut feeling.

having built couple of incarnations of carrier level cache's myself, tho not in recent years but early 2000, i learned pretty fast (well, more my employer did learn) the cost for bandwidth is far less than the cost to manage one in multi GE traffic loads. i know the bandwidth cost structure is different here, and the overall speeds too, not to mention traffic profile is all different to the rest of the planet. so maybe it's still worth...

right. well, once the price competition, ADSL2+ rollout and especially possible VDSL2 rollout (or GPON) proceeds i'm fairly sure that'll change.

unless the cost of consumer broadband is kept artificially on high level to discourage using the technological advantages in speed.

unless ofcourse, nz becomes another china... =)

Yes, I got confirmation from TelstraClear that there was an issue with one of their proxies, resolved about 9am - that's why some access was still working.

I'm so damn sick of Telstra / Paradise.
I have the 'save PHP' problem a lot.

I've logged a support call with them and they're pretending not to know anything about it and keep sending me messages like:

"Hello Sam,

Can you advise if http://www.php.net/docs.php appears as an attachment?

If you have any further queries"

... without actually listening to me saying its the transparent proxy and that the error is at random.
