Before I get into a 45 minute wait I might ask here for some previous experiences... Does TelstraClear offer the "once in a month" plan change like some other ISPs, or if I request a plan change will they ask for a contract (which I don't have now)?

Yes they do offer this. I did about a month ago when I went over my data cap. I then downgraded again the following month

Yes, you can change your plan once a month.

Wll, actually not off topic. I am in the 80GB plan and in five days already used 80% - because of a huge online backup I am doing, trasnferring from Mozy Pro to Mozy Home.

I am thinking of getting the 120GB plan for a month or two to see how it goes. But if it's like you say... The only benefit for me would be increase allowance.

There is capacity, they just judge things on a node by node basis.

That problem is fixed by the introduction of the DOCSIS3 gear which is being deployed in Wgtn from this week.

It works out cheaper to pay overage and stay on 10Mb plan.

A good thing is... when you change plan, your data allowance is "reset" to the new data plan allowance... At least that was the case for me once... Felt good for that month :-D

I also read from NZHerald (or Stuff??) that TCL is "rolling" out DOSCIS 3.0 like Steve said, they envision to have it completed for all cable customers by the end of June...

Correct, no contract required, just an who new allowance which ends on your current billing cycle. So you use what you have now, then get a whole new Xgb. Then feel free to change back again.
My brothers old flatmates actually got called by TCL and asked if they wanted to do it, as they still had 1 week to go, and had already purchased 4-5 blocks. Those blocks got waived when they upgraded for the last week.

I received one of those "Why not move up to Warpspeed" phone calls myself (after going over 100gb for two months), but declined (in hindsight I should have reinforced to the CSR just how bad a deal I was being offered).  Unless you actually need (and can use) more than 10MB/s down, there's no advantage over the Lightspeed plan + overage.

120GB on the Lightspeed 80G plan only costs $208.95 (LS80 costs $1.87/GB if you only use 80GB, but $1.74/GB for 120G), where it's $229.95 for 120GB on the Warpspeed plan ($1.92/GB for 120G).  Even if you regularly exceed 120GB, Warpspeed is never better value for money.

(Incidentally, for larger volumes of data:

140GB: LS80 $238.45 WS120 $259.45

160GB: LS80 $267.95 WS120 $288.95

180GB: LS80 $297.45 WS120 $318.45

200GB: LS80 $326.95 WS120 $347.95)

I have change to warpseed and had gone over my previous plan by $170+ dollars which has all been reset - I now have 120GB to get through in 4 days!

Question: if next month I use the full 120GB and then change back to 80GB plan before the end of my billing period what do I get charged? 120 plan + 80 plan?

The account will be charged full 120GB plus the pro-rata usage of the 80GB plans.
