Just wondering if anybody else has received calls from Vodafone of late tempting them to move off prepay onto a contract.

Yesterday I received 2 such calls, one in the afternoon and one in the evening. Both calls were from an unknown number, I was told how I could save money by moving onto Contract.

I have my doubts this would be from Vodafone itself. Unless we get a confirmation from Paul or JohnR I'd assume it's one of their retailers trying to get some commision by moving people to on account.

Also, remember NEVER give your PIN or account number to anyone calling you. If they ask for any personal information, for security reasons ask for a name, hung up and call Vodafone directly yourself.

They could be anyone trying to get hold of your information for their own use later.

I'm planning to move off contract to prepay, don't usually end up using the minutes and txt's I pay for.

How do you get service from Vodafone if you don't give your PIN when they ask for it as a prerequisite to accepting your call?  It's a bit like a bank teller thrusting a piece of paper at you and saying "give me your signature" before they will even consider hearing what you want.

Vodafone NZ have advised dealers / retailers ETC to NEVER ask for the PIN when cold calling customers this is a Vodafone policy

Im currently in Sydney and recieved a call from an unknown number from someone claiming to be from Vodafone and said that it was a courtesy call with an offer of something free. At that time i wasnt able to talk so asked if they could call an hour later which i believe they attempted to do, but about 4 seconds in to the second call i ran out of credit due to the roaming charges. Dont know whether they will call back or not but it had me pretty excited but if its only about moving to contract then that will be a let down.

Thanks guys for the heads up.

How do these guys know if you are on prepay or not? Do they have access to our account details?

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Free setup code: R587125ERQ6VE. Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

I'd guess if you bough a prepay pack from a Vodafone-branded store they might have collected your details... They then go on calling everyone, claiming to be Vodafone and offering a "great deal, basically to get some commission I'd say on new contracts I'd say.

I actually downgraded to prepay from contract about a year ago. So really weird that they knew I was on prepay, what made it more weird was that I was called twice from different people on the same day.

They have access to a very small part of the CRM tool (stripped right down)
