Well, I just had a frustrating phone call with not one, but three vodafone call centre operator in Manilla or wherever they are.

Now I turn to Geekzone for help - I am hoping someone has knowledge born of experience here that will help answer my question...

The situation is that I have a prepay SIM in a netbook with built in 3G that I set up for my mother, as I wanted the simplest internet connection possible - no external devices, no routers, and should work anywhere.

All I want to know is:

The only add on tied to this prepay is broadband lite ($10 for 100MB) and like most VF addons it renews monthly from when you started.  In this case it renews on the 19th of each month. This does not suit mum so well, there is a usage graph in the vodafone mobile connect software that shows 0 to 100% usage but the dates are calendar months.

How can I change the addon so that it renews on or about the 1st of each month?

That's the simple question I wanted answered by the call centre, and they just got more and more confused so I gave up.  My thoughts are to cancel the addon now, meaningthat the remaining data for the period to the 19th of next month will still be available, then renew it on the 1st of next month.

Does anyone know if the addon will in fact get added on the first of next month, or will it wait until the previous iteration of broadband lite has expired i.e. we are back to the 19th again?

TIA

You will need to cancel the add on before the 19th and then add the add on again on the 1st of the next month

Does this answer your question?

The billing cycles for your addons begin when you add them to your account. Your addon was activated on the 19th so you will always get charged on the 19th for that addon.

Like John said, if you want your addon allowance to start from the 1st of the month, simply cancel your current addon before the 19th and add it again on the 1st of the month... but remember there will then be a period of 11 or so days where your addon won't be active in this case.

Did you know you can customise the dates in the Vodafone Mobile Connect software to show whatever monthly period you like ie 19th of this month to 19th of next month. My understanding is that the dashboard software is not that accurate though.

@scheduler - no i did not know that you can change the VMC dates, although i suspected you should be able to.

Problem is, the netbook is in a different part of the country to me and there's no way Mum will be able to be talked through the procedure! That's why I though changing the addon would be easier, because i can do it online.

@simon14 and johnr - the only thin i am worried about with cancelling the addon and re adding it is that the VF site says you can only have one addon of any given type active at once, and what i don't want to happen is that i cancel the existing one (the remainiing unused data is still available to the account) then add it again on the 1st of next month, and since the old one is still active until the 19th the new one might not take effect nutil the 19th, putting me back where i am now!

A way that's guaranteed to work is to kill the existing addon, and renew on the 1st of august i.e. leaving from the 19th july to 1st august with no addon bblite, but I don't want the interruption in service to Mum's internet.

i guess I will try the first option and if it doesn't work will do the second.

I'll try and remember to report back here in case it helps someone in future, it seems that the only way to get an answer is to give it a go :-)

When the add on is cancelled on the 19th the data will still work at the casual rate of $1 per day up to 10meg on the day its used
