After speaking to Vodafone for a 4th time yesterday I have finally had a response from them this morning regarding my WAP traffic in excesss of my 3MB plan being charged at 6c/10kb.

Apparently WAP is charged at 6c/10kb if you go over your data cap. Considering Vodafone use included plan data for WAP and then start charging a different rate for WAP traffic than GPRS traffic once you go over your cap and don't mention this pricing anywhere on their site I think it's pretty rude of them..

Comments anybody?

Are you trying to say it should be 2c/10kb John once I go over my 3MB for both GPRS and WAP? That's how I understood it as well however Vodafone rang me back this morning to confirm that the 6c/10kb is their WAP charging rate for those people on a data plan once you go over your data allowance. Their web site also mentions in several places that WAP traffic is charged at your GPRS rate plan.

There is obviously nothing I can do because they insist there is no issue, maybe you'd like to take the issue further?

The rate is different depending what GPRS plan you are on,

I don't know the rates off the top of my head but the higher the plan the cheaper 10kb becomes.

(guessing) 3meg plan 6 cents per 10kb once you go over your 3meg (internet or WAP traffic)

Vodafone WAP seem to be charged at GPRS prices: "All WAP traffic charges will be charged to your Vodafone mobile account. For more information about GPRS Pricing see the GPRS pricing plans or dial 777 free from your mobile or 0800 800 021."

For what I read here it should be .02/10KB:

So, if you have an account, and it's the 3MB data plan you should not be charged at different rate on WAP usage.

It is strange the recommended contacts on Vodafone (their customer services reps) are not relaying the same message as their website and billing services.

Have you checked your account online. There should be a daily breakdown of data usage and charges.

I'm on the same data plan and have a few days "GPRS Usage 2c/10KB" (tend not to use WAP).

Yes I have. However this month I haven't yet exceeded my 3MB so have no charges.

From my previous bill for example I was charged

14 December 2005 WAP Activity 6c/10KB 0.0195 $0.12
13 December 2005 GPRS Usage 2c/10KB 0.0488 $0.10

The following is also from the Vodafone site now that I'm looking around it -

It is FREE to browse Vodafone live!, you just pay for what you buy.

Note: WAP browsing on other sites will be charged at your standard GPRS data rate.

It's obvious Vodafone don't really have any idea what's happening here but considering their numerous other billing issues that is hardly surprising!!

The real issue here john is that they are charging different rates for WAP and GPRS once you go over your cap. While you are still within your allowance WAP is free. Once you go over your cap you will be charged the overrate price for GPRS data and $6/MB for WAP no matter what plan you are on. On the 3MB plan I should be charged $2/MB or 2c/10kb.

My case is still being looked at. I was supposed to get a status email last week but that hasn't arrived.

Its been around 133 days (or 4 months 11 days / 19 Weeks) since I noticed it and informed Voda (According to this website).

Just waiting I guess....

cokemaster: Grantis, you are more than welcome to fix my overcharging if you want :)

I think 137 days is a bit steep personally and the solution support case is still 'open'.

Sorry, I can't fix your problem & if I could, I would :-)

But to honest, trying to deal with it from another country ain't going to help, I assume your still in China? When do you get back into New Zealand? When you do, perhaps you could deal with one person in particular, until the issue is satisfactorally resolved. All the best with it.

Thanks anyway :)

Yes, I'm still in China currently. Going via email support is a bit useless as I have found out - good for other things though but not this case. I have been literally nagging them [vodafone] since the problem started with more than weekly reminder calls to ask whats the status of the case.

In most of the cases I just get told that the case is still open and that a solution will be finished shortly...

With the exception of this overcharging issue and the smaller MMS-alert issue, they have been good. I'm not wanting or trying to 'screw vodafone' or 'screw vodafone out of a buck', I just want to be charged for services that I actually use.
