Hi guys,

I just joined TC cable in Chch. Over the past three days I have noticed a few things.

First of all, it seems to take a long time to locate or connect to a website; at times this process can take about 10 seconds. However, once the server is found and a connection is established, the speed is good. 9.5 mb/s up/1.9 mb/s down with 12 ms ping seems to be the norm. I wonder if it has something to do with the DNS.

Also, on occasions, Firefox would say the page is not found. When I refresh the page, it would then load.  This has happened to sites that I have never visited before.

Are these problems common, or is it just me?

Cheers

I would say it's just you.

What DNS servers are you using?

I'm on TelstraClear in Auckland and I have no problems. Maybe there's issues in ChristChurch?

Audiophiles are such twits! They buy such pointless stuff: Gold plated cables, $2000 power cords. Idiots.

203.96.152.4 and 203.96.152.12?

That's what we're using.

Tonight I'm finding T/Clear (Cable Christchurch) to be very annoying, DNS queries slow, network generally unstable (slow one minute, fast the next).

Driving me nuts trying to get work done.

T/Clear have apparently been the subject of DDOS attacks, perhaps that's to do with it.

Was trying to watch a a segment of Fairgo on TVNZ, gave up in the end, buffer buffer buffer.

Oops. I should have clarified earlier. When I said Clearnet, I meant 203.97.78.44 (& .43), not the 203.96.152.4 (& .12)

By the way, just a few minutes ago I had to wait 23 seconds to connect to nine MSN australia. Bump.
