Hi Team,

Looks like some of Vodafone's email systems are having a meltdown.  Cannot receive POP3 or send via SMTP, or telnet to the smtp.ihug.co.nz server.  I only noticed as I had complaints about automated messages not being received overnight, and checked my server's queues to see messages stacked up.   We normally send via smtp.ihug.co.nz.

Also cannot get to their network status page http://forum.vodafone.co.nz/forum/8-network-issues/ :)  Their phone system advises of the issue.

If you happen to spot this post and are using a Vodafone ADSL connection on a Telecom exchange, could you do a quick test "telnet smtp.ihug.co.nz 25" and drop a note in here if it is resolved?

Cheers

Yes I also noticed this. And can't load up the network status page either. Hopefully services are restored soon

I've heard that they had a MAJOR SAN failure so something like 10000 websites down, webamail down etc.

Hope they had backups :)

I had to look up SAN on wiki:

A storage area network (SAN) is an architecture to attach remote computer data storage devices (such as disk arraystape libraries, and optical jukeboxes) to servers so the devices appear as locally attached to the operating system. A SAN typically has its own network of storage devices that are generally not accessible through the regular network by regular devices. The cost and complexity of SANs dropped in the late 2000s, resulting in much wider adoption across both enterprise and small to medium sized business environments.[citation needed].

I like the idea of an optical jukebox!
I wonder if it has that Prodigy video?

I am not sure if Vodafone is capable of getting anything right. The amount of useless spin being put out re: the e-mail and latency issues are sickening. Time to move to a real ISP for myself.

dejadead, I think when a company gets to a certain size the ability to admit errors pretty much dies.  This is probably about the same time the 'professional suits' take charge instead of the guys on the shop floor getting promoted.  :)  Publicly listed companies also haveta majorly cover their butts to protect the share price and investor confidence.

I dumped the ihug webmail interface when it was web 2.0'ified some time back... gmail now retrieves from my ihug pop account. I had a brain fade two days ago and tried it again and it is still horrible... hate to think how it would go over dialup :-(

This is the kind of thing that made me move away from Vodafone - 3 weeks ago I switched my phone and broadband back to Telecom and havn't looked back (apart from the occasional glance to see all the crap that Vodafone still tries to sell).

Its not about who's got the most perfect ISP, as everyone has issues and suffers hardware failures. It's the ISP which keeps their problems away from customers eyes or who keeps them from being customer impacting the best who wins that race.

I rung the business contact centre yesterday because I have been experiencing problems for months as well the guy at VF said I will keep on having these problems for at least another couple of weeks which probably means a couple of months.

I have approx. 16 email addresses that were originally with quik which sold to ihug which is now VF they also host our companys website they do all of this $40 a month. Can anyone recommend a more reliable provider who could do a seamless transfer and provide the same services at the same rate.

Thank you

I keep having outlook ask for my password to check my old ihug address.

Things are way delayed as well. 20-30 mins is good at the moment for emails to my @ihug address.
