It seems now that worldnet.co.nz are offering VDSL2 http://www.worldnet.co.nz/personal/vdsl2/

When will Xnet be doing the same?

I read that as not offering, but gathering figures to see if there is demand for it to warrant upgrading or leasing some of the gear.

No access to cabinets still so it will likely only be close to exchange users that will benefit for now.

Theres a few telecom workers on it for testing from what I hear through the grapevine. And some ISP staff who are beta testing for their own supply.

Chorus tech I was with yesterday indicated a user he is aware of is on 24mbit, Which wasn't at all bad as he was just over 2k from the gear :)

Nobody is yet offering VDSL2.

When it is available there will be a number of ISP's offering it.

Actually Telstraclear have been offering it for a while - almost 12 months I think.  They call it BizNet.

Yep they have done for a good year or more, but from how many nodes compared to Telecoms?, and not really at a $20premium compared to ADSL plans.

I meant nobody through Telecom Wholesale.

I was hoping to have had a connection this week but that has been delayed.

Cabinets have VDSL as well as it's the same ALU ISAM module for ADSL/ADSL2+/VDSL.

Anybody who does wholesale connections will be able to offer the product, however there are presently some regulatory issues around the launch and the availability of naked and clothed variants. Last week's commerce commission ruling probably opened up a whole new can of worms as well.

Wasnt the $20 premium an indication of wholesale price premium not retail price premium?
Given where urban fibre is being pitched in terms of retail pricing and Telstraclears retail pricing (both VDSL and price for speed on different cable offerings) it could be a whole lot higher than $20 over ADSL.

Hi, your right, will be interesting to see what price they start retailing it at.

Just interested because I've just been connected to a new cabinet with adsl2/vdsl2 and have a nice connection sync of 24Mbit. VDSL should snyc up nicely when I can get it.

I had the chance to get into the trial with Telecom, but I had to have my attenuation lower than 10.8dB so I missed out :(

Yay. VDSL2. We all get to use up our data caps or data-by-the-dollar even faster than now.

How? You'll only use a bigger cap if your surfing habits change significantly.

I didn't say bigger, I said we'duse it faster... which I suppose is good, but my point is that while data caps or charge-by-the-amount remains in NZ we remain behind much of the developed world however much faster it may be.

However since you mention it, faster speed does encourage and permit a wider range of applications - the most obvious being more streaming video. Such applications remain more limited or costly in NZ thanks to the above constraints.
