My partner wishes to cancel her Vodafone contract, so when she was in town the other day she went into a Vodafone store only to be told that it couldn't be done in a store and she would have to ring the call centre. So last night she rang the call centre to say she wanted to cancel and was told that oh there isn't anyone here right now that can do that and to ring back tomorrow.  I thought contracts could be cancelled in store and if not, shouldn't the call centre be able to cancel them no matter what time of the day?

It's almost 10am... Can't you partner call again during the day and do it?

She could if her day didn't involve lots of meetings and more important things, hence why she rings at night.
And from Voda's site : To ensure we're available when you need us our customer service centre is now open 24/7 and it's free to talk to us.  She needed to ring them at night to cancel her contract and they said they couldn't do it.  I see the key words from them being "we're available" but obviously they aren't.

They'll be available for some things after hours but not all things. Although they should have offered to arrange a callback from the appropriate department that deals with deactivation requests.

I'm pretty sure you can cancel contract in store. I've did that quite a few time for myself and my family for phone upgrades (signed cancellation document, agreed to the early termination fee, and re-sign for another 2 years, etc).

By the way, not all Vodafone stores are made the same...... From my experience, you can often get reasonably satisfactory result by visiting the Vodafone owned stores.

I'm sure you could probably cancel in-store too...but the OP's experience indicates otherwise.
