TelstraClear is driving me mad, persistent stalling problems on international sites, usually on trivial static files like javascript and CSS, they just sit and hang, and hang, and hang, until finally bam they pop through, seconds, minutes.  I often have the network panel open in Chrome watching it happen.

SO frustrating, I'm sure it's not the servers, although I see it  most on my own sites that's only because I mostly am using my own sites (while developing them).

Not only that, but using SSL bypasses the issue, perhaps it's no surprise because of course SSL would also bypass that infernal cache of TelstraClear's.

Is it just me?

- What domains?
- Are you using TelstraClear's ClearNet DNS or third party (such as Google DNS, OpenDNS, etc)?

Yes I too am having the same issues across multiple sites including Trademe which would assume that it is not an international bandwidth issue. Facebook and while trying to do a speed test the speedtest.net site too was super slow / stalled.

Tonight things are bad, yes.
But if you're having this all the time, I'd be looking at your DNS servers, as has already been mentioned.

Audiophiles are such twits! They buy such pointless stuff: Gold plated cables, $2000 power cords. Idiots.

Sounds like an average day of browsing on slingshot to be honest...

The problem with slingshot that causes is is their proxy. Seems that when it fails, you never get the connection closed in firefox, and eventually firefox just refuses to load stuff till you go work offline and then untick work offline.

sock via ssl to my webhost or my seedbox resolve the problem in my case as well.

Using the T/Clear DNS 203.97.78.43/44

No specific domains, even geekzone is sometimes affected, or at least some of the external javascript used.

I thought Slingshot allowed you to opt-out of the proxy, and was about the only one that did allow that?

I wouldn't mind T/Clear running a cache, it's the inability to opt-out of it that I object to, even if it cost more I'd pay it within reason.

Agreed, IMO anything with ports blocked, a proxy intercepting some ports, devices that limit the number of open TCP connections, thing that drop UDP if you do too much of it etc make something not an internet connection, but more like what justjuice is to real juice, to most people they are the same but really they are not.

It seems this is getting out of hand. Had three cable modem resets this morning in a 90 minutes window.

What's going on TelstraClear?

Anyone had any luck with a Tech, because mine is still running like a dog, thinking about ringing them up but not to fussed about waiting for a long period of time, to no resolution.

No way am I going to sit on hold for a year and a day, only to spend the next 1/2 an hour trying to explain to "tech" what a proxy server is, or how it's not normal for random HTTP connections to stall, or how it's practically impossible to reproduce reliably because of the randomness, or how the proxy server run by TelstraClear has always been a problem point and it's never really improved at all.

Throughout the last 3 years I have been on TCL Cable.

I've had this problem on and off throughout this time, but mostly on!

I've logged 5 different jobs with TCL about their transparent proxy, their DNS server issues etc...
Every job was closed without a resolution with TCL denying there was any problem.

It's only in the last 2 months that I've actually fixed the problem, for good.
After 11 days of countless hours trying to contact them by phone and email...

I left Telstra.

This isn't just a cable issue; my DSL was pretty bad last night too (using the Clearnet DNS).

Logged in to say that this issue is happening for me also. A site will stall, then time out, when I hit refresh it loads in a split second.

Tried to download some print drivers from here & the problem happened again:
