Just got an email from TelstraClear, now offering the Doro 410s handset for $249 (incl delivery).

It seems a very basic handset, but good just for that...

Does the Doro come with the simcard unlocked?
Can it be used on the Telecom Network?
Does TCL offer prepay on a casual basis eg 89c per min without the need of a $20 or $29 contract?

Looking to use the phone for my elderly mother (83yo) on the Telecom or TCL if offer a very casual prepay plan.
Found the TCL site not very helpful.
Thanks

It's a GSM only phone so the answer is no. TelstraClear also don't do prepay and haven't done for a number of years now.

It won't work on 3G. Telecom XT is a 3G only network, 850 MHz, so this handset won't work.

From my experience with Doro branded stuff at work it should be avoided at all costs..

Woah, $250 for a GSM Handset.  Wouldn't it be better to get a $50 2Degrees prepaid phone.  Seems a strategy doomed to #fail

Why go for a casual rate of 89 cents per minute when Vodafone and 2degrees do that for under 50 cents on prepay

Thanks for your replies.
The VF .49c and 2D .44 do look better for sure. I have not been impressed in dealing with TCL over the phone.
re a cheaper phone.. would be better of course, but the Dora seems to have good features for the elderly, including an emergency button to send up to 4 txts out if pressed, big screen, hearing aid compatability etc.. Only place to buy them is thru TCL. They have none in stock. Were featured in Herald on Sunday, so I would have expected them to get their act together.. but no....
Phone not locked so will go to 2D I guess. She will not make many calls.. just pick up from Doctors or I have fallen over etc... from time to time.

Thanks everyone. All sorted now, apart from purchasing the expensive device.

Because the phone itself is for a certain purpose

Same as people spending 1.2k on an iphone
