Hi,

I've just been over at my sisters house who has been experiencing issues with her internet connection; facebook either fails to load or only partially loads, other websites take ages to load up. The issue seems to be specific at least to her connection because I'm here at my own connection and none of the issues are occurring - IIRC both of us are connected to the same equipment so it kind of rules out something that is happening area wide.

I've tried through her router, I've tried directly connecting the modem into her computer, I've tried other computers on the modem yet all display the same sort of problems.  I'm doing to go back tomorrow to see if I can diagnose the problem when I'm fresh after a good night sleep.

Anyone here know a reason the problem? have I overlooked something in the diagnosing process? I really don't want to ring up TelstraClear if I can avoid it but I have a feeling it has something to do with the connection in the grey box itself

What DNS servers are you using?

sbiddle: What DNS servers are you using?

I'm just over at my sisters now; last night I tried both Google's DNS and Telstra's own DNS and the problem still reared its ugly head. I'm definitely sure it isn't Telstra's DNS given that that (obviously) I use the same DNS settings. It appears that the issue is related to her connection (outside of DNS etc) but it seems to have corrected itself now. I wonder with the role out of DOCSIS 3.0 to provide 100Mbs service whether there are incompatibilities - I've seen through forum posts from the US that the SB5101i can have issues in some situations.

Are there any known incompatibilities between the WRT120N and TelstraClear cable modems? I've got an Apple Airport (Dual Frequency) updated to 7.5.2 and everything works wonderfully so I'm wondering whether the problem is intermittent because of the router.

I've got a similar problem too...

It seems to be my PIX 501 Firewall, I havn't gone and removed the router out and fully sniffed what's going on, but the problem for me is ONLY with the SSL National bank web site, all (well all the ones I go to) work fine.

Using wget on windows seems to kick it back into life after the 4-5th time.

I now have a link on the quicklaunch to do:

wget.exe  --no-check-certificate https://secure.nbnz.co.nz

And then it works...

It seemed to start for us on Wednesday this week.  Not sure why as the router hasn't had an issue in the 18+ months it's been in service until this week.

No DOCSIS3 will not interfere on this.

What are the "Telstra's own DNS"? You shouldn't use the Paradise ones, those are always out of sync. You should use the ClearNet ones, 203.97.78.43 and 203.97.78.44

And never ever use Google DNS, OpenDNS or anything external or you will end up with broken websites due to local caching, Akamai and other CDN configuration problems.

Interesting, I assumed that the DNS ip addresses I was given was  for telstraclear but it appears that they're the old paradise ones. I'm going to give it a go to see whether the problem is resolved when using the clearnet ones.

Edit: It appears that everything is working nicely - why do TelstraClear installers keep giving out out of date information if the ones I received aren't correct and are problematic? it seems that TelstraClear need to have a chat to their contractors.
