Hi.

I've just bought a samsung Galaxy S phone which I can bring up to Android 2.3.3 with native SIP support I believe.

Does anyone know if the native SIP works with VFX's authentication requirements? I believe SIPDroid has issues with Echo at the other end of the call?

How much is it for a second VFX line?

Quality will depend on which network you are using. I wouldn't expect great quality on any 3G network around anyway, only WiFi.

Thanks. I intend to use it on Wifi.

Android Gingerbread v2.3.3 has a native SIP stack which supports unique Auth Usernames as part of the SIP credentials.

Wondering if anyone has used the native Gingerbread SIP (V2.3.3) with VFX ?

A couple of the Android users in the office have the Google Nexsus S running 2.3.4 and have managed to get in and outbound calls working using the built in SIP client, not sure if there is much variation between Galaxy S and the Nexsus S (I roll with the iPhone).

*update* they also confirm it worked using 2.3.3

The native SIP client is not available in 2.3.3, only in 2.3.4 as I understand it.

I've managed to get VFX working on my Galaxy S using Sipdroid when I was on 2.2. I have since reverted back to certified VFX config and have not used it on Sipdroid with 2.3.3.

I'm pretty sure 2.3.3 has a native SIP. I'll have a look when I've got the phone and done the update.

I've read quite a few reports of echo on the other end of a call using SIPdroid?

I guess i'll have to try them out and see how they go. Love this android stuff. reminds me of my days building interface electronics and writing assembly language for the Commodore 64...

This is my first android device. I can see lots of time being swallowed up customising things on this phone.

The good news -

I have this working on my Galaxy S with JVP rom (2.3.4) and it blows sipdroid away. Good riddance.

The bad news -

Samsung have left this component completely out of their roms and I had to add it myself which will require root/custom rom.

Each official firmware in each region gets designated a 3 character name. The custom roms created (like Darkkys) are built around these official (or their source code). JVH is an older 2.3.3 based rom.

I'm completely new to android and about to take delivery of an I9000T with stock ROM as supplied to telecom NZ.

I think I'll try the darkys 10.0 or 10.1 Rom. I am doing some browsing now and have a lot to learn before i dive in the deep end.

There are a couple of guys at work who have already installed darkys 10.0.

What "Region" should I be using? "JVH" that you mentioned?
