Here's my understanding of wap browser charging

voda casual rate $0.10/10kb .. ,,

and you can buy bundles of traffic, e.g. 3MB for $10, 15MB for $39, through to 1GB for $50

tcom casual date is $0.05/1kb

and it seems you can't buy bundles of wap browser traffic.

Correct.

Telecom New Zealands WAP charges are $52428.80 (*thats fifty two thousand, four hundred and twenty eight dollars and eighty cents) per Gigabyte.

Imagine how much better their uptake of mobile data would be if WAP data was able to be put on a data plan.

Im not using mobile data (or WAP) at all at present, but would spend about $15 - $20 a month if I could get WAP included (so I could do IM and email direct on my mobile).

I love that figure!!! Theres a PDF file floating round here that shows how many million Telecom are making off WAP charges. Its from the head of TNZ Mobiles keynote address to something.

Also mentioned that he saw CDMA and W-CDMA merging sometime in the near future.

Far too much! WAP should be charged at data rates. But i guess its a huge cash cow for the networks
