Hi People,

I've just decided to make the move to Vodafone for internet. Currently with WorldxChange on their Fusion plan, and got a good offer through work to move to Vodafone.

Great... I thought...

I planned to keep my number with the VFX service (or maybe move to 2talk, hadn't decided), and get Vodafone Naked DSL.

Things went swimmingly until I got a call 95% of the way through the signup process - I'm told that Vodafone Naked DSL does not support VoIP, and I'd need to disconnect my VoIP line before they'd proceed with the connection.

Surely not?! Is this true?!

From reading other posts and the vodafone forum, I think the status is that they don't 'support' it. So you need to be able to configure everyting yourself, but there's nothing blocking it from working in the vodafone adsl network. The vodafone complete modem you get on signup also has VoIP ports which people have been able to get configured and working fine over VF naked DSL..

Without understanding exactly what's been said it's impossible to know why you were told this but VoIP works fine over Vodafone and there is no reason at all why you'd need to disconnect your VFX line.

You will however probably need to move your VFX number to one of their monthly plans since you'll be longer have internet with them.

Using 2 talk over vodafone naked DSL and it's working fine - just enabled the ports on the VF Complete modem and we're away.

Whats the main reason to go this way rather than Fusion, cost?

Someone I know has a Vodafone supplied voip modem that they are using to run the xnet open vfx line over, on a Vodafone broadband connection. They have no issues.

VF not supporting VoIP basically means there are no service guarantees around VoIP and no support from the call centre on how to use on their connections or equipment.

This does not exclude the technically proficient from making it work. As many here have pointed out.

Please note: I have a professional bias towards Vodafone.

Fusion is pretty expensive when compared with Vodafone NDSL.

I run 2Talk, WxC and a remote extension to our office PBX all over my home Vodafone NDSL. Works like a champ.

Thanks Nate, what WxC are you running over VNDSL, I assume you mean WorldxChange but I am not clear on what bit of WxC you would need if you have NDSL and 2 talk?

Thanks for all the prompt responses! Turns out it was an error at their end - I received a call back to say in fact they *could* provision me Naked DSL while I retained my VFX service.

All's well that ends well.

In response to the 'why?', a couple of reasons:
1) Service. I'm looking forward to hopefully being able to use YouTube (despite having a sync speed of 8Mb/s, YouTube still is unusable (never plays 'live' and takes forever to cache).
2) Price. VF now (or will soon according to this forum) offers 45GB for $60 - 45GB on WxC is $45 on top of the base for data alone!

Interesting.

looking on their naked plans they have
45GB for $65 / month (from 1st July).
Presumably, they would still have the double data option, so, you could get 90GB of data for 95.60 / month if you needed it. You would also get free mysky if you had sky.

Not too bad. Annoying though that you need a Mobile plan to get these prices, or, are you referring to some other plan / option?

When WxC removed the torrent plan, they said that something else was coming. Haven't heard any announcements from them.

You're right, you need a VF mobile, in my case I have one through my employer, and my wife has one also, so we qualify two-fold.

Ok got it. One other question, why do you run VFX and 2 Talk, as far as I can tell they are pretty similar?

Edit, maybe obvious that I am looking to do the same.

So, $65 to $95 because of no account? The cheapest mobile account is $17.30 / month on a 12 month contract, so, you would save $12.70 / month if you got that plan even if you never used it.

If there's a change in plans and you don't want to continue with that plan, there's a $50 termination fee, so, after 4 months, you've saved enough that even if new plans come out you would be no worse off than if you didn't do this.

That's my take on this, but, I haven't looked at all of the fineprint.
