I see that the Linksys PAP2T is certified for VFX service but not the PAP2T-NA.

Does anybody know why?  VFX seem to now offer an uncertified hardware installation option but they do not support that hardware if there are problems.

Assuming the PAP2T-NA is not locked, what other issues could there be?

Thanks

NA's were typically operator only devices, they were not typically sold direct to end users. There are also been plenty of reports of fake PAP2-NA's out of China and many ex Vonage units ex China also that have been reflashed with Linksys firmware with the same MAC address.

They also are slightly different hardware with different firmware versions.

It's as Steve siad, the PAP2-NA was being sold on trade-me and they all had the same MAC address, this effectively becomes a counterfiet device and will break the automated provisioning model we use.

Thanks. A friend coming over from the US has a SPA2102-R he has spare. I don't he said it was locked to any carrier over there. Could I use that on VFX?

Had seen that and also the VFX page where it says the PAP2T-NA is not supported.

I wasn't sure it was a technical issue but it seems the NA just means for the NA market, but more because there were so many counterfeit ones around with duplicate MAC addresses.

Anyway a friend is going to give me a 2102 so that is probably a better choice.

It's a 2102-R if that makes a difference?

Here you get the -AU models. The -R is possibly Russia? Through Google I found:
http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=65&topicid=58843

First link is from the XNet forum with a user that has one, ask him to confirm. Second link states it will work with any SIP provider and lists XNet specifically (an no one else).

I suspect the -R suffix relates to one supplied originally by Sunrocket and may have firmware specific to them.

You could be right. I think I might just ask my friend to see if he can get to the admin page before he brings it back. Else it could be a brick!

Lol counterfeit with duplicate MAC address. Just waiting for sucker on Trademe to buy 2 of these for his local network.

But come on, it doesn't cost much to get a MAC block from whoever dishes them out does it?
