Some TelstraClear customers received an Email between 6pm and 9pm tonight (Tuesday 27 Sept) advising they have gone over their Broadband Usage, when they have not.

We apologise for the mistake.  The email should actually have told customers that their data cap will increase from midnight.

These details are at: http://www.telstraclear.co.nz/sub-sites/homeplan-usage/index.htm Customers can check their usage online at: http://www.telstraclear.co.nz/customer-zone/internet-usage-meters/

The usage meter will show the new increased data cap from midnight tonight. Again, we apologise for the mistake.

I think he was asking if the new plans applied to DSL or Cable users.

Hi Jason,

The changes in the linked page are for our HomePlan (ADSL) customers.

Well that's a shame. LightSpeed prices remain MUCH higher (e.g. LightSpeed 60GB $95.95 versus $40 for HomePlan). But I guess it is faster (but on many sites you don't see that speed advantage). I am sure LightSpeed prices will be going down too ... Smile

Has it swapped over for you yet? Mine was switched on the 29th.

that's not apples with apples.
the $40 for Homeplan doesn;t take account the fact that about $30 of your broadband plan is accounted for in your base plan charge, not the data add-on. so the homeplan 60GB is actualy costing you about $70 i.e. the same as Inhome.

see here
http://www.telstraclear.co.nz/residential/homeplan/phoneline/
and
http://www.telstraclear.co.nz/residential/homeplan/packages/broadband.cfm

phoneline without broadband = $45
Same phoneline with broadband (before any data packs added) = $75
60GB broadband data pack = $40.

therefore total paid for broadband = $75+40-45=$70

The rest of your post is correct, but not this -  the 60GB plan is $95.95, not $70. The 40GB one is $70. So it's $70 vs $96 for the same cap. Which means in this instance cable users are effectively paying a premium of $26, or are getting 2/3 of the cap for the same price.

Thanks for the info Screeb and kyhwana2. Heck, if the pricing were simple TCL could hardly call itself a telco ;-) I long ago gave up trying to decipher my monthly TelstraClear statement. If they were meant to be read, they'd only occupy 1 side of a single sheet of paper.
