What do you think of the Vodaphone offer for there Vodafone Mobile Connect data card and service.

Its a good deal......

Telecom also has the same deal but I'm not sure if the data card is free. Telecoms EVDO is much faster than Vodafones UMTS

Telecom Card is $199.00 + GST ($223.88 incl) on a 24month term, or $399.00incl Open Term. Faster and more extensive 3G coverage area.

I'm using Vodafone UMTS VMC card on 24-months 1GB for $49. And i got the card free because i was in the first lot of the offer where the card was free if you signed up for 24 months contract. With the current offer, the 24-months 1GB for $49 is $149+gst.

Do be aware that Vodafone is launching their HSDPA soon (in few weeks time) and from a media that I read, the speed is absolutely impressive. I'll be upgrading to the new card as it becomes available and continue using the same SIM card (1GB for $49 plan).

Internet is my backyard...

I would deffinetly wait for HSDPA launch before purchasing a new device as the current UMTS MCC are not HSDPA capable.

In saying this, when Vodafone launched 3G they offered me a new UMTS MCC and replaced my old GPRS one at no cost... I'm not sure if this will happen this time around. Because the launch is coming closer, if you dont need it straight away it would pay to wait.

HSDPA is rumoured to be released in speed increments starting at 1.8mbit, going to 3.6mbit in the next upgrade (shortly after lunahc) and then up to 14.4mbit in coming months

Not for the HSDPA speed increases, thats a network upgrade only

Speed increase is card dependant as well

Some cards only support a max speed

Really? So if I went and brought an HSDPA card and was getting 1.8Mbps to get 3.6 I would have to buy a new one?

What I've heard today is that they want to launch at 3.6Mbps if possible. Some cards may not be 3.6Mbps now, but firmware upgrades would bring this speed - all really depending on some certification of firmware levels.

Some cards are capable of having their firmware upgraded to allow for the faster speeds, most "devices" will be able to be used through all speed increases (3.6 - 14.4mbit as well). I have heard (as johnr said) that some devices are limited to 3.6mbit and wont be upgradable
