I've been senta a Just5 phone from my sister; it was discussed on Breakfast TV show on TVNZ as great, simple phone, but it won't dial or send texts - is this an incompatability issue?  I note they sell to the UK and most of Europe so just assumed Undecided it would work here on Vodafone.

Any (polite) suggestions?

Where did she send it from? Was it from the UK? Because I note on their site that they sell them in the USA too.
If its from the UK and it still wont work, my guess is that it would be network locked and you would have to contact the provider over there and see if they'll release the unlock code for you, be nice too hahaha. Does it say anything when you put the SIM in/try to dial out/dial in/send sms/receive sms?

Thanks for the speedy reply Sam, it was sent from the US.

Nothing untoward when I insert the SIM, can see contacts OK. When I dial or send text it just returns to the Main page.

If it is unlockable, will the US version be compatible here?

Im guessing no. Do you know what provider it was sent from? Cnet says these phones are 2G dual band devices. The networks in the USA usually run on GSM850mhz / GSM1900mhz where as we in NZ tend to use GSM900mhz / GSM1800mhz, so unfortunately it doesn't look like it would be possible to use those phones over here if they were imported from the States.

If you import one from the UK however, it should work just fine assuming it wasn't network locked.

Was your sister able to use the phone in the States? If she was that would mean it works on either 850/1900gsm so wouldnt be the 900/1800gsm version you require to use it here.

She never tried, just got it and forwarded it as my partner liked the sound of the simplicity and ease of use they talked about on the Breakfast TV show (bad arthritis made the big keyboard buttons very attractive for texting)

Phone shows a model number and FCC ID but no reference to network frequenices

Oh well - looks like another candidate for the Starship recycling bag

Thnak you very much for the assitance - very much appreciated

Paul
