I am getting 1-2 spam emails a day with all  xnet emails exposed in the send list.

There use to be a spam filtering option with email accounts but it seems to be gone.

Does xnet filer spam email anymore or no?

My spam filter with Xnet email is still working.
Have to log in to the webmail to see the Spam/Junk folder.
Spam filters aren't 100% so these ones may just be getting past the filter.

Opinions are my own and not the views of my employer.

The option used to be there to enable/disable it. I used to have it enabled. Over a year ago I had to contact the help desk to get the filter disabled because e-mails from Sky and a few others end up in the junk folder. The filter was disabled but still getting e-mails in my junk folder. After a few help desk requests to try and find the cause I was told that the filter is not instant-off but will continue to filter according to learnt rules until I have moved e-mails enough times out of the junk folder to unlearn a rule. This just sounded wrong to me, but I gave up getting this sorted so every few days I just log into webmail and move the e-mails to my in-box.

If Maverick or Cameron or one of the others could shed some light on this, would be much appreciated. It is frustrating.

While not being terribly helpful to your exact situation, I would strongly suggest moving your email to a service such as Gmail. You may choose someday to go with another ISP and be stuck paying for a @xnet.co.nz address until you've notified your contacts of your new @isp.co.nz address.

Gmail's spam filtering also works well, and ultimately will reduce costs for your ISP which would hopefully mean lower internet bills in the future if they don't have to support a mail platform.

I agree with insane and will go one step further and suggest that you get your own mail domain.  This is probably only a good idea if you are a power user, but I find it invaluable for dealing with Spam.  I used to get a heap of spam, but I got my own mail domain and setup a wildcard address which then allowed me to create a system where every site I enter an email address for I use a different address.  For example; if I signup for a login at sony.com, I use the address 'sony@mymail-domain.com', google.com; google@mymail-domain.com, geekzone.co.nz; geekzone@mymail-domain.com etc...

The reason I do this is for 2 reasons; 1) If I get spam I can identify exactly where the address was taken from and 2) If I get spam on a particular address I can simply block that address and BAM! The junk is gone!! :D  I do get the odd spam to addresses that spammers have guessed at, eg; sales@mymail-domain.com, accounts@mymail-domain.com etc, but very rarely.  The system allows me to cull out spam very effectively and I will never run out of addresses to use! :)

I've had my mail domain for quite a few years now and the level of spam I get is very low (probably 1-2 emails per month).

The other golden rule for avoiding spam is never put your email address in plain text on the Internet (like I did with the examples above), as spam bots scour the net looking for such addresses to add to spammer's email lists.
