Three small rural communities, two in the South Island and one in the North, will get mobile phone coverage this year, as the first successful applicants in the Vodafone community cellsite scheme.

Well done Vodafone!  Great to see an initiative such as this, and also great to see that 3 isolated communities have organised themselves so well to take advantage of it.

Its actually a very clever move by Vodafone. The local community do the legwork around land purchase, permits etc and then vodafone come in and put the tower up and run it as a commercial operation. Good for tourism.
