hey,
I remember back when TCL announced their steam server they said
http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=44&topicid=87386

"From a design perspective we've chosen to open our content server to all ISP's, mirror all available content (so just about anything you want should be available) "

but when I look at the list of servers on
http://store.steampowered.com/stats/content/

is shows the telstraclear server is [filtered], which, when you click on, it says
"These servers are called "filtered" because they only serve content to a select group of users (filtering out all others)."

so my question is,  Is the TCL steam server available to all NZ ISP customers, or just TCL?

(yes I am aware it won't be unmetered to othr ISP customers, I am only insterested in the speed aspect of the local caching)

I have used the TelstraClear server on Vodafone. I think that data is outdated.

If it's limited to NZ customers (I don't know whether this is the case) then it'd probably still appear as filtered.

Sounds likely.

I'm reasonably sure that the server is available to anyone on an NZ (and I think possibly Australian) IP range, but not globally hence the [Filtered].

Also reasonably obviously it's only unmetered for TelstraClear customers :-)

In order that our customers get the best possible user experience our Steam server is available mainly to TelstraClear customers. We are looking at providing wider access to customers from selected other ISPs, but our first priority will always be our own customers.

Cheers, Gary

So it is available on other ISPs? I have used Steam before and seen an ad for TelstraClear saying that it was their server.

There are several Steam content mirrors in NZ now, Steam will use multiple servers (despite what logo it shows) to download content unless you prevent it from doing so with 3rd party tools like SteamWatch, SteamManager etc.
