Hey just a question, hoping someone can help.

tl:dr, can I hook the ata port from the HG659b to the daisy chained phone network in the house, to enable me to use any phone port?

So Iv moved all my equipment into a cupboard where I have rewired the Phone system.

Essentially they phone comes into the cupboard, to a little converter box, then to the daisy chained phone ports throughout the house (the house is old, with overhead phone/power). At the same time I changed from 3 wire to 2 wire.

Iv put in a 3 port rj45 wall plate with a VDSL filer in behind it.

Line to filter - Modem to one Rj45(RJ1) socket, Phone  Line to one rj45(RJ2) socket and the last RJ45 (RJ3)socket connects to the houses phone jacks,

Iv plugged the modem ATA port to RJ3 with the hopes that this would me to use my 2TALK voip number at any phone port in the house.

Phone has no signal what so ever.

Use a tone generator and tone comes through to all port albeit not super clean.

So is this because the router wont support such a feature? or something that I have done? If modem doesnt support. Can I purchase a ATA that would allow such a setup?

Phone does work when connected directly to the modem,

Thanks In advance

You must have a bad connection or something not plugged in right because as long as your house cabling has been disconnected from the feeder line from the exchange then back-feeding the house outlets from the ATA should work just fine.

Can you post a pic of the VDSL filter?  Whilst I've heard of ADSL filters being used to bridge the old house wiring an an ATA, this is the first I've heard of a VDSL filter being used - someone more knowledgeable could possibly give a definitive answer to whether the filter will work as a voice bridge ...

so you have VDSL?

i would say you house wiring for the phones needs to be completely separate to the VDSL/filter side of things because you cant cut the lead in for the phones because you need it for the xDSL.

I would say somerthing like this would work

Lead in > ETP > Filter > VDSL Jack RJ1 > Modem

Then

Modem ATA > wall Jack RJ3 > This should be connected to all the other jacks.

THere should be no connection what so ever from any of the phone jacks to the line in or the phone output on the Filter/Splitter

How have you wired the pairs?

for using RJ45 jacks for Phonelines, Generally you look to use the Blue Pairs (the two very most inner pins)

So filter is being used from Main Line (overhead) to rj1 (modem) and rj2 (telephone), Rj2, is then not used at all.

Iv left it there to make it easy to connect to the house wiring in the future if need be (if i need to get a non voip for what ever reason). So i could put a lead between RJ2 and RJ3 and all  the house jacks would have a filtered phone connection.

rj3 is connected to the lead the goes to the daisy chained phone lines. This is where the ata is plugged into.

I suspect it might be a badly done push connector. Will redo and try again. Could also be why there was some noise with the tone generator.

Using blue/whiteblue for all connections (inner most pair)

Using the red and white for the phone lead (was red blue and white) - or should I be doing blue white?

Could you confirm if you have VSDL or fibre to the home?

How many phones are plugged into your dasiy chained phone lines?

If you are not overloading the ATA with too many phones, then my assumption would be that the lead from the modem ATA through to RJ3 is incorrect.

Assuming that the modem ATA is an RJ11 socket, the lead should be connected from the center two pins on the RJ11 plug and through to the center two pins on the RJ45 plug.  (Usually the blue & blue white pair of the cable)
