Hi.

 

 

 

I hope I have my terms correct. 

 

I need to subscribe to a Cloud PBX / VOIP service that has the ability to 'break out' to local PSTN networks (in oder of priority) the US, UK, Japan, New Zealand, and Australia.

 

Does anyone know of such a service? Or are local NZ providers 'stonewalling' the big players like Microsoft?

There are plenty of such providers. I'm not going to name any to avoid it being seen as a recommendation. I'm sure Google will list plenty.

 

Nobody in NZ is stonewalling anybody but IMHO there should be further clampdowns on the use of NZ numbers from providers overseas.

Thanks for the quick response and fair enough re recommendations. 

 

Although I'm finding is a bit hard finding a single supplier that has PSTN breakouts in all those countries. US/UK is fine. But the whole combination not so....

 

First three letters of some options perhaps!!!??? :)

I don't really understand what you mean by "'break out' to local PSTN networks". Can you please explain in simple terms?

What I'm looking for is providers who who effectively have in-country links (POPs?) to the country's PSTN network so local calls are effectively that rather than an international call from somewhere else. 

 

The thought being if 'intercontinental' comms ties are ever cut, each of our offices will be able to local customers without interruption. 

 

E.g. I want to avoid all calls to Australia emanating from the US.

 

Make sense?

 

Could be a pipe dream....

That's not quite how it works.

 

There are plenty of providers who offer international DDI's and/or trunks for outbound calling. These companies typically don't have their own infrastructure, they're simply buying numbers from other providers in many of those countries.

 

Most of these global providers have SIP proxy's typically in a few regions of the world. They don't have them in every country and are merely transiting calls over the internet themselves.\

 

You really need to be looking for providers in each of those countries if you want to have true global redundancy.

Yep I think you are looking at it the wrong way around. Rather than looking at the provider to give redundancy (because you just won't get that from a single provider) look at your PBX design and work back to the provider from there.

ie. "PBX" in each country, linked with private trunks (IAX2 for asterisk for example), and then just dialling rules to do your least cost routing for each country.

You will get US, UK and AU DDI's from 2talk. But that doesn't help with redundancy in those countries.
