Hi guys ,

TLDR - 2Talk sucks and I am after a replacement at roughly the same price point, anyone got any suggestions?

I am wondering if anyone else uses 2talk or has used as their VOIP provider?

We have been with them for about 3 years and slowly but surely it seems we have got to a point where they just can't offer a service that a business can efficiently use.

A classic example is we use their toll free numbers for conference calling and there is a heap of jitter or missed words on the call, this exists across cell/landline/VOIP users, they have fixed it up about 3 times and it is only a temporary fix as every time it reverts back to not working correctly. The latest fix they have now applied when I attempt to carry about a call the call disconnects. Surely as a technician you would make a change and then test the line via a call, but clearly this hasn't been done...

I also find their ticketing system painful, they have a 2 week autoclose mark as resolved 'feature' which locks the ticket and therefore can never be open again, what about all the history that might be useful for a technician to see in order for me to not have to repeat myself?

And now here we are, what is everyone else using for VOIP?

We have used them for a few years now. Haven't had many issues, but it is also dependant on your ISP and the packets that are being sent.
Generally, i found that the issue was our internet speed until we upgraded.

I have been using them for almost 10 years I think. Any problems I have had in the past have been my end user equipment or my inability to configure the devices correctly.

We have found them to be very reliable. I can't remember the last time I had a dropped call or even jitter.

Cheers, Matt.

My views (except when I am looking out their windows) are not those of my employer.

We have dozens of businesses and hundreds of numbers via 2talk. The have their problems, but you'll be hard pushed to find anyone else in the NZ marketplace offering the same price-point with a comparable feature set. Sure there are competitors, but you'll have to be willing to pay more for their services.

We found the trick with 2talk was getting 'close' to their network. So now we have a direct cross-connect with them at an Auckland datacentre, and a backup route to them via another Auckland ISP that has their own bilateral peering relationship. That certainly helps.

I feel your pain though. When they have an outage we are quick to re-route our outbound traffic via backup paths so that we are less affected, but I appreciate that not everyone has enough infrastructure in place to support that luxury on the fly.

Please do let the group know if you find a comparable service! I'm sure there would be interested parties.

I've had very little problems with them also.  We moved our main phone line to them when we moved into someone house so we could retain it.

The only weird thing I find it occasionally the caller id masking I have on our numbers turns off and our numbers shows up.  But pretty minor.

What type of internet circuit are the SIP phones using?, is it shared with the data network I.e daisy chained pc behind the phone? What phones are they? Do they (phones) have gigabit or 10/100 ports?

Absolutely nothing wrong with 2talk.

The ineptitude is in the users (and certain resellers). 2talks model is quite clear in that retail users get ticket only support.

If you need more than that contact a competent reseller.

While I'm no 2talk fan jitter is almost certainly something in your setup rather than in their network. If it was everybody would be complaining of issues.

Hmmm well I am having problems specific to their Con calling facility, which I test using devices outside of my network.

I am happy and familiar with a ticketing only system, Big Pipe has a similar system and it seems to work to good effect.

Also I would think that post a change an engineer carries out the least they would do is make sure the line works as intended...

Further, they have this public facing blog, I can't dial through to that line in any way... is that cause they just leave old/irrelevant information up there or is it because I am doing something wrong....
