One of the local technology distributors is bringing a new line of VoIP phones into the country.  FlyingVoice is the brand.  Of note is a big button phone (with a red HELP button) designed for seniors.  2.4g WiFi is built in to allow location away from the router.  The specs are not going to set any geeks hearts a-flutter, but this may be useful for some of you supporting seniors in an increasingly copperless world.

I have not personally toushed one of these, and would guesstimate retail pricing to be in the just-under-$200 region if and when any retailers adopt this product.

Model Number: FIP12WP

Product Site: https://www.flyingvoice.com/products/voip-phone/fip12wp.html (slow to load, for me at least)

Perhaps pair this with Skinny Jump?  https://www.skinny.co.nz/jump/home/

Cheers

Got one to have a play with the back end config.

Learning curve based on interesting provisioning files. Web config also "meets the price point" but will be refined over time I guess.

I would be concerned that someone needing such a device would also need to have the unit powered via POE injector or similar and UPS on the ONT etc to get the same result as an "old telecom phone line and phone"

Yea I won't look at these until 3CX picks them up as a supported device.

Thing is the Fanvil stuff is still better value. That accessibility phone is pretty great though. Have a few rest home clients that it would suit, but no way I'll deploy it until 3CX auto-provisioning is an option.

I agree there is a need for products of this type, but I expect there is a bigger market for seniors who want a simple cordless option with a basic interface and loud ring tone. My parents are now seniors and while they may not want to use cellphones, they're still perfectly capable of using a cordless phone. The business-oriented VoIP phones like our Grandstream setup at present are good, but they aren't simple enough, have a few quirks and the ring tones are woeful. If you have dozens in an office, you don't want them to be too loud, but for home use, they're a bit too quiet.

Hardware aside, the biggest problem is plans. Many seniors love to talk for hours. Cellular calls are stupidly expensive via VoIP providers, and local calls often aren't included, so VoIP isn't cheaper. I would love to be able to VoIP all my parents' calls, but currently I'm forced to split incoming and outgoing calls to keep costs down. Incoming calls are free via VoIP, while outbound calls go via a cellular gateway with unlimited national calling.

I would assume 3CX now charge the hardware vendors to include their equipment in their provisioning systems now. So I guess that FV have not stumped up the $$$ yet.
FV have been around since 2007 according to Linkedin, however they only seem to have 1 EOL product on their current website.

Maybe they have gone through some kind of rebranding and changed from xyz products to voip of another company ???

Yep probably. They charge providers to go through the certified trunk process, so wouldn't be surprised.

But a vendor just isn't worth the effort if they aren't a supported device for us. Its bad enough manually configuring a single phone, led alone a few hundred.
