That's why I switched to OpenOffice and later LibreOffice. I had to help someone with editing a Word document a few days ago, and it was a nightmare trying to find anything on that ribbon, even using the search option. The old menu was more compact and easier to use IMO.

Its because with MS, marketing and dogma gets priority . It seems .

A long history of not listening and putting out new versions that got a lot of hate . To the extent that new PC's were literally factory
downgraded to the previous versions of Win .
Home users not buying new PCs as they refused to have the then current version of Win . (eg Vista, Win8 )

With MS Office , what MS should do is have a Home & Pro version.
Home version being simplified & easier to use, Pro version for those who actually use all it capabilities and will get proper training .

An Excel expert might know next to nothing about Word. Microsoft experimented with having a "beginner mode" and "expert mode" even back before Windows 95, and it was a disaster because experts in one field are beginners in others, and you can't just narrow it all down to a "simple version" and a "pro version".

"Force"? It wasn't forced before and they say it may take until mid 2022 for everyone with compatible machines to update, so not really "force". Windows 10 support goes until 2025.

Saw a report yesterday saying 50% of corporate Windows 10 machines wouldn't be able to run Windows 11.

If your perfectly good PC is more than three years old then you'll never need "worry" yourself about Windows 11.

Pretty ridiculous, really.

No luck installing under bhyve (Runs Windows 10 fine). While clean installs on unsupported hardware may be possible, it looks like some of the requirements are still enforced. Unhelpfully, it doesn't tell us what. I'm guessing TPM.

Also, something to watch out for. For some reason when I select English (New Zealand) for regional settings, it defaults to the Arabic (101) keyboard layout, not US.

I seem to have successfully enabled TPM and SecureBoot on my PC.

Before this the Health Check was saying no TPM so I turned it on. The Health Check then said no secure boot, so I turned that on.

I tried the Health Check for the third time and now it just pops up a box with two options - See All Results, which is greyed out, and Device Specifications, which works but just goes to a web page.

Anyone else get this greyed out results box ?

Yep, I can confirm this. Installing into a fresh VM and it switches over to Arabic when choosing NZ.

Windows Update says my laptop isn't compatible. Some digging finally told me that the CPU is not compatible.

AMD A12-9720P

Which sits in between two on the list of compatible ones A12-9700 and A12-9730. Weird.

I don't suppose laptop CPU's are upgradable like PC ones are? Guessing they might be permanently mounted? Shall google, but if anyone knows offhand, that would be useful to know.

In other news, my desktop also decided it's not compatible.

"This PC must support Secure Boot".

Clicking through it says to switch from Legacy to UEFI. Mine has "UEFI & Legacy" enabled. If I switch to UEFI only it just cycles back to the Bios rather than booting into Windows.

Unless there's a sub setting somewhere I need to change, then I guess I'm not upgrading that either.
