November. But anyone can sign up to Windows Insiders and get Preview builds now.

Cool, just wanted to know when it would be available to our clients. I'm running Insider Builds, enjoying current version.

I finally upgraded from Windows 7 Home Premium to Windows 10 on my HP Touchsmart IQ816 a couple of weeks ago via the Media Creation Tool as I'd gotten sick of waiting for my "reserved" copy to be pushed out to me. The upgrade went with without a hitch but the machine would completely freeze at random moments and the only way out was a power cycle. Power cycling the machine 3-4 times per hour has been quite annoying but suspecting the problem lay with the graphics drivers (graphics card is Nvidia GeForce 9600M GS) and having seen a couple of updates for this be pushed I was hopeful the problem would be resolved.

Except this morning I couldn't get past the log in screen. I could enter a pin number OK but nothing would happen. I optimistically clicked on the power button to restart Windows 10 but when it rebooted I was presented with a screen which told me Windows 10 had been unable to start properly and needed to be repaired. A few attempts at the repair have proved fruitless and now I'm simply being presented with a message which states "The operating system wasn't found. Try disconnecting any drives that contain an operating system. Press CTRL + ALT + DEL to continue".

Now I'm little worried that the constant power cycles have caused a drive failure. I've just finished creating a Windows 10 bootable USB and will see how I get on using this. Overall, not a positive impression of Windows 10 which is a pity because when it did work it was fast and quite smooth.

Haven't managed to find the answer to this yet. I get the below message that my wireless adapter is not compatible and I may not be able to connect to the internet. Is it worth the risk doing the update or should I just stick with Windows 7? If I do it and then can't connect to the internet would be it possible to go back to Windows 7 or would that be it for this laptop?

Now this might be due to something going on at Spark, the site I am downloading from having lots of traffic, my router on the way out or a number of other things which have nothing to do with Windows 10. However seems like a bit of a coincidence. Downloads which use to go at 600 Kb/s (On average, give or take a couple 100 kb's) are now downloading at 80-100, with the occasional spike to 500/600/700 for a minute or so. a 1.8GB file is taking around 6-7 hours to complete, where it used to be done in 30-40 minutes.

Had a quick google search but couldn't find anything. Anybody else have this happen to them? On Wi-Fi also.

I would guess you need to see if you can find updated drivers for your wifi.

I'd decided to wait until my desktop decided it was ready for Windows 10, and that happened Friday night. I have been using it on the tablet for a while, and loving it on a touch device, but just a couple of issues on the PC.
Well, one kind of solved itself, it's funny how a lot of people have reported that things just started working properly, I've gone balmy trying to sort some issues which eventually sorted themselves.

So just one issue to start with -- I've probably overlooked a time-zone setting somewhere, but when I type something into the Calendar app as an all-day event it pops over to the previous day. If I set it to the earliest time -- 12am -- it shows up correctly. Busy week this week, and I've just realised that I can't rely on my calendar!

I ended up building a bootable USB for Windows 10 via the media creation tool. Repairs to my malfunctioning system wouldn't work from this either so I ended up doing a clean install. Windows now needs activating which I don't seems to be able to do through the 0800 number despite numerous attempts.

Over the weekend I was getting put to a call center with a very bad line and CSR's with accents extremely difficult to understand. After some time they would finally say I needed to speak with customer care, and then put me back in the same queue which took me to them in the first place. Today I'm being told, "no problem" and that I will be put through to a technician who can help me - I then get cut off.

I have a feeling it'd probably be faster to reinstall Windows 7 and upgrade [again] then carry on with this palava, although I've no doubt I'll have to go through activation process with Windows 7 as all my licenses will be used.

Edit: After the 5th attempt today I finally spoke to someone who said they could help me rather saying I needed to be transferred then cutting me off. After reading out my W7 product key I was advised that it was a product for an upgrade from Visat (correct) so the ONLY way for me to get Windows 10 is to:
1. reinstall Vista then
2. upgrade to Windows 7 then
3. upgrade to Windows 10

Might be easier to just go back to 7 and be damned with it...

Your Windows 10 won't be activated unless it's an upgrade. A subsequent clean install will automatically activate if Windows 10 was previously activated on that hardware.

My original upgrade activated fine and was working for about a week. The constant system freezing forcing me to power cycle the computer obviously corrupted something and there was no recovery from it. The clean install has not automatically activated.

Interesting. It should have activated. I did a fresh install with no activation problems after being activated as an upgrade.

Note to Microsoft: I also had a lot of issues, some of which I posted about here, after upgrading to 10. Most were fairly minor, some I fixed myself, others disappeared over time for reasons as mysterious as their original appearance. At the moment 10 seems to be working fairly well for me. But the things that initially didn't, along with all the horror stories here, have persuaded me not to update any of my other machines. Maybe it will go okay, maybe not, but there is just too much uncertainty and I don't want to be a beta tester any more. I just want to turn it on and have it work for what I need. Isn't that what consumer devices are supposed to do?

The release version of Windows 10 seems a lot more like a preview version than a finished product. If you want people to forget all the awful experiences your operating systems have put them through in the past, you need to stop releasing stuff that isn't ready.

Hopefully things will be better when TH2 comes out. Should be next month but no one is entirely sure at the moment.

After managing to get a Windows 10 activated again a couple of days ago, I'm back to the same old freeze every few minutes. I didn't install VLC at all in case that was the culprit - no difference. I've experimented with various iterations of Chrome (and not having it at all) in case that was the culprit - no difference. The only thing I can think now is that it's being caused by the NVidia drivers. Is there any way I can uninstall these then block them from reinstalling?

This isn't quite the same but it might help anyway. I had endless trouble with the touchpad on my new Acer laptop freezing up. The only way to fix it was to reboot. While experimenting I discovered that the mouse action of the touchpad works fine without the mouse drivers actually being installed. So I uninstalled them in Device Manager, made a note of the files, then moved the files in Explorer to a backup folder so they would still be available if needed. This prevents Windows from reinstalling them. So now I have a nice big yellow triangle where the drivers should be and the touchpad hasn't frozen again for more than a month. Something similar might work for you, at least as a test.
