So I have a wireless MyBook Live drive and want to connect it to my Windows 8 PC directly. I was told to grab a crossover ethernet cable. However, the PC doesn't seem to recognise the drive.

Anyone have any other ideas?

I'm only guessing here, but does it need a firmware update if that's at all possible?
Or a Windows 8 driver install if available?

Hi, my guess is that without a DHCP server in the network its going to fail.

I would think you wouldn't need a crossover cable since most motherboards should be now auto-mdix.

Anyway you might need network software from WDs website

Usually you plug the hard drive into your router and use the routers assigned IP address to access the built in web management software.

That is how I setup my WD Mybook world edition a few years back.

I have just setup a mybook live duo on my windows 8 system. I just plugged it in to my router via the supplied network cable, let it do an update, setup the folders I wanted backedup and away it went. Its a great little nas box.
