Somehow I've got this Norton 30 day free trial thing on my computer, running Windows 8.  I have AVG installed, and am behind a firewall in my modem/router, so don't want to spend money on further software.

I went to the Control panel and tried to uninstall it, but it just starts the dialogue saying my computer is at risk, and to download the free trial.

Can anyone help me get rid of this please?

Thanks

I think you have to go to their website to get an uninstaller, they don't want to make it easy to remove. I thought windows 8 didn't need any third party security software as it is all built in.

Had forgotten about 8 having security built in.  I'm annoyed at this continual intrusion by Norton though.

They probably pay computer companies to install it, which subsidies the price of the computer a bit. But not good they install something on a PC does already has it built in,. They however will probably say it is better and has additional tools in it. I think one of the versions does cloud backups, which maybe handy for some.

Thanks all.

I took a closer look at the dialogue window and found "settings", which offered an uninstall option.  I've done that, but it certainly is obscure, and you need to read the choices carefully, as ll the defaults are to install.

Thanks again

Yep, they do their best to get you on board.  The best option is during setup is to be vigilant and not just take all the "recommended" options and don't install Norton or anything else unless you want it.

My current laptop came with MacAfee and I thought I'd give it a go, against my better judgement, big mistake, I soon uninstalled it.

I think I must have accidentally said "yes" to it, when downloading something else.  Gone now though.
