I keep getting a message that my spyware and virus protection isn't activated.

I have spybot, and I click the update button, it tells me it's updated, but I still get the message I'm not protected.

Secondly I get the message I have no virus protection.  I click the activate Windows bitdefender (or whatever it's called), but nothing happens.  I did have AVG installed but the one year free trial has run out, so thought I may as ell use the Windows 8 protection, which I didn't realise I had until recently.

Many thanks.

Okay - I've done a little more investigate on my computer, and it seems i may be getting this message because i haven't updated to 8.1.

Nothing to do with Windows 8.1 upgrade or not.

Make sure you uninstall AVG otherwise Widows Defender won't start. Spybot is not antivirus, it's anti-spyware. Different things.

Yes I knew spybot and antivirus were different.

I have uninstalled AVG - I thought, but will go back and check.

Thanks
