As above. Just checking on the PB tech website and pricespy. It appears that lots of shops are selling boxed version of Win 8.1 for cheaper than what you can download it for directly from Microsoft. And surely those shops are still making a profit on it as well.

What about getting a student version - Im not a student myself, but can get a mate to get it for me. Is this frowned on or does everyone think that any method that is not via torrenting ect is ok?

Maybe someone has some corporate licences that they don't need and can sell me one????

Just a question, do you really need 8.1? Ever considered a Linux Distro?

By Corporate license I assume you mean Volume / Select license.  I doubt anyone would be willing to "Sell you one" as A they're typically linked to a single product key for the entire organization and B they would be breaking their Licensing agreement by doing so.

I got mine for $99 from DSE when it launched. Usually an upgrade pack comes with CD's.

Just fresh format with one of them.

I found my stash on Windows 7 pro CD Keys just then :O.

That's understandable now you have explained how that type of licensing works.

As for Linux Im currently running Zorin Linux on my desktop. But will soon be buying a laptop and signing up to a job management system that only works on win 7 pro or win 8 pro. The laptop will already have win 8. So I will need to get another copy of win 8 pro for the desktop.

You can download Windows 8.1 Pro for $90 directly via Microsoft online store if you are a student or staff member at an eligible education provider.
