Are step-by-step instructions available to downgrade from Vista Premium to XP Pro? I have basic PC skills and cannot keep up with many of the forum postings. I am currently running Pro on an older machine that I will decommission with this upgrade. I have a legal copy of Pro. If I take the first machine out of service, may I use my this same copy for the new?

First problem is new laptop probably has SATA controller and XP won't have the drivers. If no floppy drive in laptop then no way to install drivers at installation other than create unattended XP install.

Spark Max Fibre using Mikrotik CCR1009-8G-1S-1S+, CRS125-24G-1S, Unifi UAP, U6-Pro, UAP-AC-M-Pro, Apple TV 4K (2022), Apple TV 4K (2017), iPad Air 1st gen, iPad Air 4th gen, iPhone 13, SkyNZ3151 (the white box). If it doesn't move then it's data cabled.

Yes I had an Acer laptop I downgraded from Vista Business to XP Pro and I had to find the SATA driver on Acer's website for XP Pro then had to use a usb floppy drive to load this driver on installing XP Pro.

Also if your version of Vista Premium was an OEM version (purchased with laptop) it does not have downgrade rights to install XP Pro instead, it must be Vista Ultimate or Vista Business.

If the XP Pro on your older pc is an OEM version it also can't be transferred to your new pc either.

Sorry to not be more helpful.
