I have windows 7 ultimate.

on sata 1 controller, i have the 500gb boot drive, split into 2 partitions, boot and data.

on sata 2 i have another data drive 1tb in size.

on sata 3 i have a new 1tb drive unused.

Now i cant get both of the drives on sata 2 and 3 to show at the same time in Windows.  When sata 2 is disconnected, sata 3 shows. When sata 3 is disconnected , sata 2 shows.

When both sata 2 and sata 3 are connected, only sata 2 shows. Sata 3 doesn't show in windows disk management, or in the bios.

Any ideas?? I have a 500w power supply and an ati radeon 2900 pro video card. Is it the power supply?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Cheers

Steve

Got me puzzled. Sata 3 shows as not enabled in bios, so looks like both drives cant work at the same time, either one or the other but when both connected only whats physically connected to sata 2 shows.

Are they stacked sockets? I have had issues with one of them connecting in a stacked socket when there was a plug in the other one, the socket had been damaged somewhat from the controtred angle that the cables went into it as they were parallel to the board and hit the front of the case.

Thankfully board failed for other reasons and was swapeed out.

Looking from the side view it's

sata 2     sata 6
sata 1     sata 5

the video card covers the rest of the sockets.

after shining the light i, i see the boot drive is connected to sata 2, the other drive is on sata1 and the other on sata 6.

Does that make a difference?

Shouldnt do. They all will show on whatever port in the UEFI or BIOS setup but seems to not matter with actually using them. Try the other port if you havent, try swapping them around. There are some really shoddy sata plugs around that may be marginal if being pushed by the adjacent plug etc.

Okayyyy so it looks the mobo wants the hard drives connected sequentially, it wants the sata 3 socket used, i had to force it in past the graphics card , and i saw on the post all hard drives recognized. Problem is, the graphics card unseats slightly because of the forced in sata connecter so wont boot properly.  blast it, why dont mobo manufacturers put these things in better places.
