Anyone know what Mozilla are on about?
start -> type "def" and the default apps application comes up in search -> open it and choose a web browser.
Also Settings -> system -> default apps. = 3 clicks.

Did it used to be easier than this?

It's more that Win32 programs are no longer able to set defaults themselves in Windows 10 - e.g. when Firefox asks "Set Firefox as Default", it is no longer functional and Windows instead pops up a message telling users to go into Settings and manually configure them.

You can argue that's for better or worse. For less experienced users, they may be confused by this, or just not bother.

Also, the upgrade process/OOBE to Windows 10 asks the user if they would like Edge and other programs, which also override defaults if the user does not use Custom settings.

this is to stop malware from being able to do this, to make sure the user is in control of their PC

To be consistent shouldn't Mozilla say the same thing to Apple about Safari?

When Firefox was the best browser option, it spread by word of mouth.. people sought out and installed it. The fact is the default for windows (IE/Edge) and the competition (Chrome) have improved a lot and Firefox is struggling.
