I can't open or even select any mpg files, otherwise the "explorer would have to be closed".  Accessing a folder displaying thumbnails and containing mpg files would also close the explorer.

What are the possible causes? Thx a lot

Don't know.
But to help those who might, what is your OS, programs installed (especially imaging or video programs), and security programs installed/running?
Have you run a check disk, disk cleanup or defrag recently?
How long has the problem been occurring, and what were you doing (programs in use or recently installed) when it first started?
Are you using an admin account?

Oh God, what've I done to it now??
