Available NOW although the Windows Update method results in a much smaller download. I'll try that later, but I'm getting the whole administrator pack thingamy now at 632KB/s so I guess they aren't getting too swamped :-)

More info here

You did push the "Check for new updates" button top left of the Updates screen?

Check here to see if you can see an issue why the update is being hidden from you.

P.S. I just installed it via Windows Update with no issues

So what does everybody think of SP1?

I installed it on my HTPC machine a couple of weeks ago which is a AMD X2 4800+ with 2GB RAM and noticed that the system certainly seemed a lot more responsive and snappier than it was previously running Ultimate.

I have two of the problem drivers as outlined in that support article, which are the Conexant HD Audio and the AuthenTec Fingerprint Sensor, however I updated the sound driver so that it is now version 4.36 and the fingerprint driver was already at 7.9, yet SP1 still doesn't show as being available for me to download when I hit the check for new updates button. According to that article updating to the new drivers will enable WU to download it.

Would anyone know why I still can't download it?

I had the same issue as you Corksta, my Authentec driver was out of date. I updated the driver but WU still didn't present the update (even after pushing refresh). I restarted the machine and ran WU again, and there it was.

Very pleased, the update installed without a hitch and Vista has a lot more fit and polish - small things matter.  I'm particularly pleased that my Windows Mobile device syncing is a fair bit more stable, reliable and tidy. I haven't tried anything like copying files, but when I need to I will, but I hear that has improved. It does feel a lot more snappy.

Yeah just got mine sorted too, it's because I had outstanding Office 2007 security updates to install (I'm just on a bum-around laptop so never installed them), and SP1 doesn't like it when there's other security stuff waiting to be installed!

Yea, I click the hit refresh button after a reset, and it says 'no available updates', so i guess I got a bad driver somewhere ha.

Sure has, but windows update hides it from you if you have something in your system that is known to cause issues under SP1

so let me get this straight. in order to download it directly from the windows download centre you have to use internet explorer 7 and have silverlight installed. lol i've used mozilla for years now. that's pretty useless of microsoft to make it silverlight users only.

From where did you get that that Vista SP1 requires you to have IE 7 and Silverlight??

And Vista SP1 is available via Windows Update and not Windows Download Center

It's not showing in my Windows update either which is a pity as there are a couple of minor issues with my Dell Inspiron 1520 which are widely believed to be no longer a problem under SP1.

It would be nice if "the system" told you specifically why SP1 wasn't available or if there was a compatibility check app you could run that would tell you what was causing the issue. (Not that I had any)
